RECENTLY Kerry has been no stranger to our TV screens and it appears the people of the county are well accustomed with paying the €160 license fee as well.

Only 7% of homes in the county do not pay the licence fee according to the Irish Daily Star today. The national average of evasion is 14%.

The counties with the highest compliance rate are Tipperary Longford, Carlow and Wexford, who are all around the 5% mark. The greatest offender is Kilkenny, where over a quarter of the county (25.34%) did not pay.

Other counties with high evasion rates are, Laois, Cavan and Donegal.

Due to online streaming, the number of people requiring a TV licence in recent years has dropped, although the amount of people prosecuted for non-payment has risen.

An estimated €40 million is lost each year through non payment of the TV licence fee. In order to recoup that money a new initiative has been launched that will see license inspectors call to homes on Saturdays and during the evening time on weekdays.

  1. My mother in law just said ‘yea we are the best county because if he didn’t pay our TV license we would be in the local newspaper) lol

The RTE TV licence is a rip off, the so called indigenous celebrates are ridiculous and by far over paid – I do not even have or want these channels of junk – It is a shame that in 2014 that 411 people were jailed for not paying. In 2015, a single mother was jailed – what a banana republic judicial system, shame on Ireland!
