LOCAL Sports Partnerships in Kerry will receive €160,000, as Irish sport receives an €80 million boost in Government supports through Sport Ireland.

This €80 million in Covid-19 funding is being allocated under five separate streams to help sports organisations like the GAA, the IRFU and the FAI to recover and grow post pandemic, support the grassroots network of clubs and local sports partnerships, and ensure people of all ages and abilities return to sport and physical activity.

Grants are also being provided to sport’s National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs) for the provision of sports equipment including the roll out of defibrillators for clubs, kits for school children and state of the art equipment for our high-performance athletes.

Specific grants of €160,000 will assist Local Sports Partnerships in Kerry.

Welcoming the announcement, Kerry TD and Minister for Education, Norma Foley said: “I’m delighted to welcome this funding which will provide vital funding to support a myriad of grassroots sports clubs and organisations across Kerry.  As we see on a day-to-day basis, our incredible athletes can lift the nation or reenergise a local community, lifting spirits and galvanising towns, villages and clubs. The financial impact of the pandemic continues to be a challenge for many and this funding will provide a timely support for organisations of all disciplines and sizes.”
