A NEW study by AIB has revealed Kerry has the second lowest pub to population ratio in the country.

The AIB 2018 Pubs Outlook was a 26 county study and looked at a number of issues affecting the pub trade in Ireland.

It found that Kerry has 435 pubs which is one pub per 334 potential customers, with only Mayo (373 pubs) having a lower ratio of one pub per 323 persons.

It also showed UK customers accounted for 6.1% of their business, while 73% came from domestic business, the second lowest in the country.

Cork has the most number of pubs in the country at 955, one pub per 543 customers, while Dublin has nearly 200 fewer, 772 pubs (one pub per 1,649 customers).

The survey also found that pubs in Ireland need to be turning over between €8,000 and €13,000 a week to keep their doors open.
