A NEW First Responders group have a monster draw on Christmas Eve which could see someone start their Christmas with a hamper worth over €1,000 as well as a chance to win one of four other hampers that are up for grabs.

The initiative is been undertaken by Lixnaw First Responders to try and raise funds for three more defibrillators and also a secure radio communication system which cost in the region of €4,000 for calls that are been attended.  The group will be operational with the National Ambulance Service by December.

“We hope to raise enough with all our efforts to have 5 defibrillators for the use in Lixnaw,” said Majella Forde, Unit Co-ordinator. “We received so much support for our draw that we were able to place four hampers in the shops in the village and tickets can be bought within stores at a cost of €2 per ticket or 3 for €5. The value of the hampers in each shop range from €50 – €80. If people want to buy a ticket for our monster hamper these cost €5 each.

Alternatively tickets can be got from any of our responders. People have just over a month to secure their ticket for the opportunity to win such a great prize, the monster hamper contains wine and spirits, gift vouchers, jewellery, chocolates, rugby tickets, jersey, household items and food products as well, all which have been given very kindly by business in the Kerry area,” said Majella.

The group had the support of Aidan O’Mahoney and Barry John Keane at the launch and Cllr Aoife Thornton also went along on Monday night.

The group started with 24 volunteers who started the whole process of training and fundraising and after a successful recruitment night recently this number increased to 40.

Cllr Aoife Thornton and Santa help Lixnaw First Responders launch their Monster Christmas Hamper Draw.

The group will cover a 6km radius from December 2016, the ambulance service will task responders to calls inclusive of chest pains, stroke, cardiac arrest and choking. The key thing with the group is they are dispatched at the same time that the ambulance is dispatched from NEOC.

For more information see their website www.lixnawcfr.com. The draw for the Monster hamper will take place straight after the children’s mass on Christmas eve in Lixnaw at 8.30pm. The draws for the other four hampers will take place in the shops the week before Christmas.
