THE U15 Kerry girls soccer team were in Milan, Italy this past week and were excited to be taking part in the prestigious Yes Cup Tournament with manager Natasha O’Sullivan, U14 Kerry Manager Siobhan Cushen and coaches Caragh and Aisling Kelly accompanying them.

The girls played four matches over three days in the Pero Sporting Centre against three Italian teams (ProSesto, Inter Milan, Como Women) all of whom are professional or semi-professional where it ended in two 1-1 draws (both goals coming from Park FC’s Jocelyn Cushen) and a 2-0 loss against the eventual Yes Cup winners Inter Milan.

They met Swiss Team Ticino in the 5th/6th place playoff. The girls fought a tremendous physical battle but there was no joy at the final whistle.

“This is a massive achievement coming up against teams of such high standard,” said Siobhan Cushen.

“The girls enjoyed a wonderful Saturday afternoon visiting the Milan Catherdral and a parade around the streets of Milan organised by the YesCup Tournament. As the only Irish team in the 120 team entrants, they sang the Irish National Anthem with pride while waving their Kerry and Ireland flags. They even had time to spare for a bit of shopping afterwards.

All 18 girls togged out and played a massive part in the very well organised Tournament. They did themselves, their families, clubs, county and country proud,” said Siobhan.
