A KIND-HEARTED SNA in a local school took to the road recently to help raise funds for Derryquay NS.

Laura Ennis from Tralee just started working as an SNA at the school in September and decided to run the Tralee Half-Marathon a couple of weeks ago to help fund equipment and educational outings for pupils in the Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) class.

Laura was only in training for a short time before the race, which was her first time running the distance. Her efforts managed to raise €2,142 which was presented to the school on Thursday.

“This is the second year of our ASD Class having opened in September 2022,” said school principal Íde Brosnan, who expressed her gratitude to Laura for her kindness.

“The ASD class is an integral part of Derryquay NS. The children are integrated into the mainstream class and get the support necessary. They also go on class outings like the Playdium and the Wetlands which is a great social aspect to their education,” said Íde.
