Kelly Oliver penned her beautiful new song entitled ‘Miles To Tralee’.

A TALENTED up and coming singer/songwriter has penned a beautiful new song based on the true story of how her maternal grandmother journeyed from her hometown of Tralee to England in order to find work.

Kelly Oliver is behind the upbeat song entitled ‘Miles to Tralee’, which talks about the desire that her grandmother feels to journey back to Ireland just to see her hometown and the land that she was born in once again.

“Well, my grandmother’s maiden name was Cleary and she lived in Stacks Villas in Tralee. She then moved over to London war to find work after the war and this was where she met my grandfather in Willesden, whom she then married,” said Kelly when talking to TraleeToday.ie yesterday.

“I am very connected to my Irish roots, and feel very much a part of the culture when I visit Ireland. This is something I feel my grandmother has passed on to me,” she continued.

“I am a contemporary folk singer influenced heavily by traditional Irish music and was inspired to write about her story because she has partly inspired my career as a folk singer. It makes me happy to think about her whenever I sing it, which is an element of the folk song tradition,” she finished up.

The London-based singer is certainly a talent and one that is steadily making her way up the rungs of the musical ladder. She has been described in The Times as “an artist that blends traditional values with hints of a bold indie-pop sensibility” while her album ‘This Land’ received a four star review from The Telegraph newspaper.

‘Miles to Tralee’ will be officially released on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Bandcamp on November 20 and will feature on Kelly’s second album which is set to be released in March 2016.
