THE man who died in yesterday’s road accident at Ballyroe yesterday has been named.
Michael ‘Mikey’ Martin was killed when he was struck by a car while walking on the road near the Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Tuesday morning at 8.35am.
The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was not injured in the accident.
Mr Martin, who was 62, was a former road manager for Mark Leen’s ‘Emerald Elvis’ act and had lived in Tralee since 1993, since moving from the US. He has relatives in the Maharees area.
Mark Leen said he was very sad and shocked at the death of his great friend.
“He was a great character and a lovely guy. I’ve lost my best friend,” said Mark. “We travelled all over Ireland, the UK and Holland together touring over the years and he really enjoyed the experiences. He did everything for me. He had great faith too, like myself and we would pray together. He was a great man for knowledge of maritime technology and could tell you anything about ships and boats.”
“My heart goes out to the driver of the car and his family at this time, as they have been affected by this tragedy too,” said Mark.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the accident and can be contacted on 066-7102300.
