A CHARITY night in memory of a Lyreacrompane man who died 10 years ago will be held next month in aid of the Kerry Hospice.

The family of Mike Dillon – who died in 2005 at the age of 44 – are hoping people will come to O’Riada’s Bar on the Tralee/Castleisland road for a night of music and great craic on Friday, December 4 from 9pm.

Mike Dillon was diagnosed at the age of 36 with a rare form of cancer called multiple myeloma. At the time he was one of the youngest men in Ireland with the disease. He fought the illness with great courage and always remained positive.

“Since our dad passed away, we [his children Sean, Eilish, Anne Marie and Micheál] always said we would organise a fundraiser in his memory,” said daughter Eilish Lyons.

“He was a great believer in supporting local organisations. We felt the Hospice would be a very worthy cause and also because all money raised stays in Kerry. As well as raising money and awareness for Kerry Hospice, we would like to use this opportunity to celebrate dad’s life with family, friends and all who knew him,” said Eilish.

There will be a raffle on the night with the first prize of 150 bags of turf, second prize is a 32″ television while third prize is a Christmas tree.
