Credit Union County Senior Football League: Division 1, Round 1 Result
Milltown/Castlemaine 0-11

Dingle 1-08

Our first time back in the top division of the Credit Union County Senior Football League in seven years sees us take a share of the points away from Dingle after a very workmanlike performance in challenging conditions.

We led 0-8 to 1-3 at half time with Eanna O’Connor, Cathal Moriarty and Jonathan O’Sullivan tagging on 0-2 each in the opening half and the other two points came from Jerome Flynn and corner back Anthony Kelliher. Milltown/Castlemaine had a goal chance from Jerome Flynn also well saved by the Dingle goalkeeper.

At the other end Tomas Sheehy and Dylan Geaney registered all Dingle’s scores with the goal coming in fortuitous circumstances when an effort for a point hit the upright and landed into the arms of Sheehy who made no mistake and raised a green flag for the hosts.

The second half was nip and tuck but Milltown/Castlemaine kept their noses in front up until the last few minutes as pointed efforts from Cian O’Connor, Sean Hogan and Eanna O’Connor kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Dylan Geaney was Dingle’s go to man as they tried hard to reel the visitors in and he levelled the sides after 58 minutes from a close range free. There was a late opportunity for both sides to win it with Michael Geaney pulling his shot wide of Cormac Leane’s goal for Dingle and Donal Dennehy was denied by the upright down the other end.

An action packed game which seen both sides take a share of the spoils when Donal Casey blew the final whistle.

Well done to the players and management team on a very positive start to the County League. They will take on Castleisland Desmonds in Round 2 at home in two weeks time. Fixture details to be confirmed.

A special mention also to Senior Player Pa Wren who we are reliably informed celebrated his 30th birthday at the weekend. Pa put in a sterling performance on Friday afternoon in defence as he always does. Happy Birthday from all at Milltown/Castlemaine GAA and we hope you enjoyed the weekend.

Credit Union County Senior Football League: Division 6, Round 1 Result
Milltown/Castlemaine ‘B’ 1-06
Firies ‘B’ 1-11

Hard luck to our Senior ‘B’ side who fell to a five point defeat against a strong Firies ‘B’ team on Sunday morning at the Paddy Burke Memorial Park in Milltown.
We trailed 1-04 to 0-03 at half time with Colin Callaghan raising the green flag for the visitors.

We had the gap reduced to the bare minimum midway through the second half when Killian Kerins rattled the Firies net with a brilliant finish which hit the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line.

Patrick O’Sullivan then seen a goal chance superbly saved by Cian O’Callaghan at a critical stage and Colin McKenna seen a chance cleared off the line by a Firies defender. Firies seen out the contest however with some good points from the likes of Connall Murphy and Dylan Callaghan to leave them victorious at the end on a score of 1-11 to 1-06. A great effort by our lads on the day and it could so easily have been a different result on another day.

Club Condolences:
All at Milltown/Castlemaine GAA Club would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to club member and underage coach Haulie Clifford and his entire family on the passing of his mother Mary Clifford (née Lyne) of Riverview Terrace, Cahersiveen in recent days.
