PROFESSOR Joseph Walsh, Head of the School of STEM at MTU, has been recognised as a Fellow of Engineers Ireland at the organisation’s National Conferring Ceremony.
Fellowships were awarded to 16 people who have made significant contributions to the engineering profession in Ireland including a number of leading Irish broadcasters, entrepreneurs and academics.
The titles were presented by the President of the organisation, Dr. Edmond Harty, who said; “the awarding of the title of Fellow by Presidential invitation is a unique honour, in recognition of individuals’ contribution and ability in shaping, influencing and inspiring engineers and the future of the engineering industry.”

“All engineers conferred with professional titles stand as exemplars of our profession and will act as industry leaders at a time when Ireland needs engineers more than ever,” he added.
Professor Walsh has over two decades of engineering expertise spanning research, industry and academia, he has co-authored more than 200 scientific papers and has secured more than €10 million in research grants in the past five years.
Speaking upon receiving the Fellowship, Professor Walsh said, “It is a great honour to be elected Fellow by Engineers Ireland. Not only I am delighted to have received this recognition on a personal level, but this achievement also acknowledges the overall achievements and continued commitment of all our teams in MTU, the School of STEM and the IMaR Research Centre.”
