Senior Men: Yesterday our seniors welcomed Kenmare Shamrocks to Killeen for Round 10 of the Credit Union Co. League and it proved to be a very close contest in weather more akin to October.

Kenmare played with the wind in the first half and were quickly out of the blocks, scoring their first point straight from the throw-in.

Tomás Ó hAiniféin responded for us in the 5th minute but immediately Kenmare replied with their second point. A Jack Sheehan free, the first one of his 3 in the first half, tied the scores after 9 minutes.

Unfortunately for us Kenmare dominated the next 10 minutes, adding 4 points to their tally. Andrew Barry who was prominent throughout the game kicked a fine point but this was cancelled out almost immediately by a Kenmare free.

Two frees from Jack Sheehan in quick succession reduced the margin to 2 points but on the stroke of halftime Kenmare tapped over another free to leave them ahead by 8 points to 5. Early in the second half Jack Doyle found himself up in the forwards and he took his point well. However Kenmare replied with another free to leave 3 points between the teams again.

Midway through the half our lads hit a purple patch and kicked 4 unanswered points, 2 from Mark Lynch (1 free) and 2 from Jack Sheehan, to put us ahead for the first time in the game.

Our lead was short-lived though as Kenmare equalized with 6 minutes remaining. A black card for one of the Kenmare players gave our lads a numerical advantage and Seán Barrett capitalized to put us a point ahead once more in the 30th minute. Unfortunately then disaster struck.

A speculative shot into our square wasn’t dealt with and it fell to one of the Kenmare midfielders who managed to squeeze it into the net.

This was immediately followed by the final whistle. Final score: Na Gaeil 0-11, Kenmare Shamrocks 1-10.
