LOCAL fans of the opera will soon be getting their chance to see an adaptation of one of the world’s best known plays when the Metropolitan Opera streams the latest production of ‘Otello’ straight into the Tralee Omniplex Cinema.
On Saturday October 17 at 6pm, Verdi’s ‘Otello’ will be broadcast by satellite transmission into the cinema here in town and will afford locals the unique opportunity experience a great performance broadcast LIVE by satellite from the stage of the Met in New York.

The piece is inspired by the Shakespearean play of the same name and has been described as ‘powerful’ and ‘intense’ and commended for its magnificent staging.
Verdi’s Otello is one of five opera productions being premiered by the Met’ in the coming months with Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher updating the opera’s setting from the late 15th to the late 19th century, where the action unfolds in a shape-shifting glass palace.
