Over 130 New Cars Sold In Kerry Last Month

THERE was a significant rise in new car sales in Kerry last month compared to August 2020, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

There were 134 new car registrations in the county in August 2021 compared to 90 in the same month last year, an increase of 48.89%.

In the first eight months of this year there have been 2,014 new car sales in Kerry while last year there were 1,758 in the same period, an increase of 14.56%. Nationally, new car registrations are up 22.12%.

So far this year, Hyundai is the most popular make of car with 269 units sold, with the other Top 5 made up of Toyota (264), Volkswagen (225) Ford (212) and KIA (205).

The Hyundai Tucson is the most popular model sold this year on 137 units, with Kia Sportage (88), Toyota Corolla (76), Ford Focus (74) and Volkswagen Tiguan (67) making up the top five.

Diesel cars were the most popular engine type in 802 units with 604 petrol. Next is 320 petrol/electric vehicles sold, a rise of over 54% on the same period in 2020, 95 diesel electric (+1,483%), 93 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (+144%), 92 Electric vehicles (+104%) 8 petrol/gas.
