PENNEYS Tralee staff are all set to help Kerry Cancer Support Group in their bid to “drive your recovery”.

Members of Kerry Cancer Support Group-Health Link Transport were in attendance to launch Penneys Tralee’s new charity initiative on Tuesday. The charity has been chosen by the local store’s staff to support this year.

Many charities were put forward and Kerry Cancer Support Group was voted number one for this year.  They are of course delighted with this endorsement of their service from one of the most established businesses in town, according to Breda Dyland, Manager of the Kerry Cancer Support Group.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude the staff from Penny’s Tralee for choosing our charity. We were absolutely delighted to hear that we’d been successful. The money raised will be put to very good use!” she said

There will be a collection on this Friday 25th and Saturday 26th so staff are hoping that they will get plenty of support from customers on those two days.

The money raised will be used to complement and enhance the existing services that Kerry Cancer Support Group provide.

This includes the Health Link Transport services which include buses to hospitals in Cork and Limerick transporting service users for their cancer treatment daily, delivery of awareness programmes to schools and groups in the region and provision of their emergency driving service which transports service users where no other service can help them.

Kerry Cancer Support Group was established in 2007 and has been transporting the people of Kerry and West Cork to hospitals in Cork for their cancer treatment since 2010.

In the past year they have started a similar service to Limerick looking after North Kerry and West Limerick. Their motto is that “No one should face their cancer journey alone” and having covered over 21,000 appointments in the past nine years they hope that they are living up to that. They also provide information and support to families experiencing cancer and to schools and groups in the region with their different campaigns.

The Kerry Cancer Support centre at Maine Street in Tralee is very welcoming and people are always encouraged to drop in to discuss anything relating to their journey. Call 066-7195560 for information.
