STAFF from University Hospital Kerry gathered at Tralee Dynamos pitch on Saturday for a day to remember a much-loved colleague.
Alan McGovern was just 52 when he passed away in July 2017 and it was decided to hold a soccer tournament and family fun day in his memory.
Eight men’s teams and three women’s teams from different departments in the hospital took part in the blitz and there was a wonderful atmosphere for the occasion attended by Alan’s family.

Alan was very much involved in the local soccer scene with Kingdom Boys and was an avid Arsenal fan. Alan’s wife Sheridan was delighted with the memorial day.
“It’s a lovely gesture by the staff, they have been very supportive and we’d be lost without them,” she said.

“Alan was very competitive and when the hospital was playing against the Bons, in their annual match, he was the manager. He was a big Arsenal fan and loved Wenger. He would have been sad to see him go.”
Adding to the family atmosphere was a bouncy castle and barbecue on a really wonderful day for Alan’s family and indeed the UHK family too. Scroll down for photos…
