LAST night, a blue collar boxing event took place in the Dome drawing in a rapturous crowd of 400-plus in aid of the Kerry Cancer Support Group.
Overall their were 19 bouts with every competitor giving their all in front of a crowd that almost blew the roof off the Dome.
One of the more well known fighters on the night, Martin Ferris, got the place going when he made a grand entrance to ‘I Fought the Law And The Law Won’.
“Those bodies are probably feeling it this morning!” said Breda Dyland of the Kerry Cancer Support Group.
“A huge congratulations to all those who took part. It was a really enjoyable night and one that is going to be talked about for a long time,” said Breda.
Fights that stood out on the night was, Gary Sugrue v Jim McCarthy, who threw everything they had at each other. Publican Danny Leane also put his neck on the line facing off against Darren Horan.
Tracey Heaphy v Zoe Nolan, was another fight that got the blood pumping and the crowd off their feet. The best fighters award’s on the night, were picked up by, Ibana McSweeney and Jim McCarthy.
The very entertaining event went off without a hitch with every fight going ahead, bar one.
Kerry Hurler, Mikey Boyle, was due to fight Kerry Junior football manager, Stephen Wallace, but that bout couldn’t go ahead because of Mikey Boyle’s, championship commitments this weekend with Ballyduff. Both men did make their presences felt to lend their support to the fighters.
Sinn Fein, public representatives Martin Ferris and Cathal Foley both won their fights, Toireasa Ferris, however was unable to make it a hat-trick for the party.
