CASTLEGREGORY Golf and Fishing Club recently unveiled a plaque to commemorate course designer, the late Dr Arthur G Spring who died in May 2015.
The official unveiling was performed by club captain, Mike Mercer and Julianne Spring, representing the Spring family.
Tom Moriarty, Chairman of Club Management, gave a very informed outline of the Club’s history and the input made by Dr Spring in designing the course.
In the intervening 25 years many changes have taken place but the original course design remains the same, testament to Dr Spring’s vision.

Graham Spring responded on behalf of the Spring family and said they were deeply honoured by the club with the plaque unveiling.
Graham said that his late father was very proud of the course he designed situated between Lough Gill and Brandon Bay.
The plaque is situated between the putting green and the first tee box and the inscription reads:
‘Castlegregory Golf Links
This course was designed by
Dr Arthur G Spring
“An absolute gem of a links”
Prior to the unveiling there was a Three Person Scramble which saw a John Mitchels Trio of John Joe Sheehy, Niall Sheehy and Mike Burrows win.

Light refreshments were enjoyed by all following the unveiling and a big thank you to all who helped.
Next up for the club are Captains Patricia Goodwin and Mike Mercer charity fundraising days on Friday and Sunday, October 21 and 23.
This year’s designated charity is the Kerry / Cork Health Link Bus and it is hoped as many members and guests will support the event. Entry Fee: €10 for members and €15 for non-members. Scroll down for photos…
