CHILDREN got a sense of what happens in the children’s ward when the Bon Secours Hospital hosted a special event on Sunday .
The ‘Teddy Bear Hospital’ was a free event to get children used to a hospital setting and put their minds at ease. Children brought in their own teddies to the hospital for some TLC and they underwent a number of tests conducted by hospital staff and International Medical Commencement programme students from the IT Tralee.
The kids became more familiar with a hospital setting so they would not be afraid or anxious if they ever had to be admitted themselves. The free event took place over two sessions and was fully booked out.
“The kids had a fantastic day,” said Dr Eilish Broderick of IT Tralee, Head of the International Medical Commencement Programme, who organised the event.
“They learnt a lot about how to keep teddy safe and well and what happens when he comes to hospital. Teddy had his blood pressure and temperature checked, an MRI and X-ray and all kids left with a prescription for teddy which may have been for more hugs or to play outside,” said Dr Broderick.
