FROM delving into the Bronze Age at Siamsa to enjoying meat pies in Maddens, there was loads going in town for Culture Night on Friday.

The evening was dry so people could move around to different events if they wished and they had much to choose from.

There was a big crowd in The Ashe Hotel for a youth choral performance under the instruction of Lisa Curran.

We called to Siamsa Tíre to see Artist-in-Residence, Conor O’Grady working and showing visitors around. Meanwhile, just outside was a fascinating glimpse into the past with ‘Casting Light on Ireland’s Bronze Age’ which saw artists Holger Lonze and friends tell the story behind Ireland’s archaeological artefacts. They also cast replicas of small sculptures inspired by the archaeology of Kerry.

A stone’s throw away in The Abbey Inn saw poets gather for a ‘Flash Dash & Poetry Slam’ organised by the Thursday Night Writers in Tralee.

We met members of Tralee Art Group who were holding an event in Baile Mhuire where visitors could create their own postcards which would then hang in the entrance. Also in the same venue, Ceilí Afro Dabke was presented by Catherine Young Dance & the Welcoming Project.

Finally, we visited Maddens on Milk Market Lane who were hosting a special event as Rebekah Wall explained.

“Well this area used to be known as pie lane because there were women who lived on Milk Market Lane who made and sold pies. So for Culture Night we decided to re-embrace the past and gave out free mutton pies, which we got from The Mall and broth made by Doireann Barrett, to visitors here.”

With more events in Tralee and beyond, it was a good night for Culture vultures. Scroll down for photos…
