FIFTEEN staff members from JRI America gave a half day to a good cause last Friday and partnered with Tralee Tidy Towns to plant 300 native Hawthorn trees with the permission and support of Kerry County Council at Clash.

The event, which was organised to celebrate National Tree Week, with trees from Trees on the Land, was a continuation of Tralee Chamber Alliance member JRI America’s volunteering initiative which allows staff to offer some paid time to a good cause.

The planting will also be included in the Tralee Tidy Towns application to the National Tidy Towns competition.

Shane Walsh of JRI America said: ‘We in JRI America Inc, were delighted to join this tree planting initiative and it adds to the range of community activities we contribute to each year.

JRI America has always had strong links to the Tralee community,  strongly partnering with voluntary and community groups such as Tralee Chamber Alliance, MTU, Kerry County Council, Tralee Tidy Towns,  St Vincent de Paul, Kerry SciTech and many other local organisations to build a stronger collective,” said Shane.

Tralee Tidy Towns Chair, Brendan O’Brien said: “We are very grateful to JRI America for selecting this project to spend their volunteering time on. They were a great group to work with. We were delighted they reached out to us through Tralee Chamber Alliance and we look forward to many more beneficial projects with them going forward.

“We’d also like to thank Kerry County Council Tralee MD  for allowing us to plant native trees here at Clash and for providing mulch for the trees too.  We are also very grateful to Trees on the Land for funding the 300 Hawthorn trees that will significantly improve the biodiversity of the area,” concluded Brendan.
