Kerry Film Festival Launches Programme For October Event

THE Kerry Film Festival (KFF) has just announced its programme for the upcoming festival from October 19-23 which promises a wealth of film treats for film fans and film professionals alike.

Details of the 17th edition of the festival were launched at the cinema in Killarney on Wednesday night followed by drinks in Scott’s Hotel.

The Festival will present 16 programmes of short film in 2016. The short film programme is an integral part of the Kerry Film Festival schedule and this year films were submitted from Kerry to Japan to Peru and further afield.

With an international focus on short film reflected in the schedule there is also an overflowing programme of Kerry short films in the Kerry Connection programme highlighting the wealth of talent creating film in the county.

The festival will open and close with the World Premieres of two Made in Kerry feature films, ‘Making It’ and ‘Brackenmore’ at the cinema in Killarney.

Artistic Director of the Kerry Film Festival, Maeve McGrath said, “The festival will open in Cinema Killarney with Kerry Made feature film, ‘Making It’ from Director Eamonn Norris. We are delighted to showcase a film produced and filmed in Kerry as our opening film in the festival. Another Kerry Made feature film, ‘Brackenmore’ will close the festival.”

In between there are another three Irish premieres of celebrated feature films including ‘A Good Wife’ which opened in Sundance this year and in keeping with the festivals tradition of focusing on music in film, KFF are delighted to offer the Irish premiere of Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Junun’ and the acclaimed music documentary, ‘We Are X’.

There will be a screening of Oscar nominated ‘Mustang’, in association with IFI education, a documentary on the Life of Ken Loach, ‘Versus’ and the Kerry Premiere of ‘Mattress Men’ with director Colm Quinn in attendance, a selection of films that will appeal to all.

A new element to the festival is the introduction of the Short Film Market aimed at emerging and experienced filmmakers. With panel discussions, masterclasses, Q & A sessions and a special focus on the diaspora in the Irish International Film Festival panel this day long event in Killarney will explore the short film on the national and international stage. The Kerry Film Festival will again connect with the Izmir International Film Festival and Nickel Film Festival in an exchange of short films and this year will introduce a selection of short films from Kendal Mountain Festival, the UK’s premier mountain film festival.

Continuing the success of previous Film & Food themed events during the festival, there will be a screening of ‘Sideways’ at Sol Y Sombra in Killorglin.
