OVER 70 kids who participated in the John Mitchels Summer Camp got a great treat on Thursday morning when Kerry player, Jonathan Lyne, called in for a visit.
Lyne was one of Kerry’s best performers last Saturday against Cork and The legion man spoke and played with the kids who were in complete awe to have an inter-county star among them.
“They’re a great group and it’s been a great turnout. The set-up here at Mitchels is unreal. I’ve had a few training sessions here before and it’s always been a great place to come and play,” said Lyne.
Though John Mitchels, have moved from their original home in town to a new the state of the art facility in Ballyseedy, the club will be forever tied with Boherbee and this is reflected by attendees of the camp who come mostly from that area of town.
The camp was mainly centred around Gaelic football but kids also took part in other activities, such as basketball and even set-dancing which was “a surprisingly big hit” said John Mitchels, Children’s Officer, Mary Joe Connolly.
“All the kids look up to the Kerry footballers. You could see that when he was talking to them, they all just stayed quiet and listened, which they normally don’t do!” said Mary Joe.
