THE sun may have been beaming down on us this morning, but summer’s certainly over for primary schoolchildren this morning as thousands head back to the books.
For junior infants it’s a daunting but exciting time, as we could see when we visited Scoil Eoin in Balloonagh early on Wednesday.

There were 77 children beginning their schooldays there, as parents said their farewells to the little ones, most of whom took the day in their stride and settled in straight away.
For some parents it was their first-born beginning their education, while others had seen it all before with other children in the school. It was an emotional time for everyone and the beginning of a great journey. Scroll down for photos…
