ARDFERT village was the scene of a huge medieval and viking invasion on Sunday as hordes of knights, princesses and all sorts of wonderful characters descended on the area to enjoy the trappings of the ‘Medieval Festival’.
The festival was celebrating the Feast of St Brendan which saw certain sections of the village transformed into a medieval settlement all thanks to the help of the Waterford Viking Historical Re-enactment Society.
There was a palpable sense of excitement and adventure in the air as families, couples and friends all strolled through the fair enjoying not only the wonderful weather, but also the assortment of different games and challenges on offer throughout the day.
There was market stalls on hand which were selling all sorts of different homemade produce as well as crepes, teas and coffees too, which parents delightedly supped on as the children eagerly lined up to take part in the festival’s ‘best fancy-dress’ parade.
The community first-responders were also out on the day as they soaked up the sunshine whilst giving a very informative and thorough demonstration on CPR, which was greeted with a round of applause as they finished.
With the afternoon moving on towards the evening, the crowds slowly started to trickle out and only a few die-hards remained, determined to soak up the last vestiges of a wonderful day.
