WHILE the men from Kerins O’Rahillys emerged victorious in their game against Stacks on Sunday, on the other side of town another team from Strand Road were busy winning a soccer tournament.
The Huddle Bar were the winners of a charity event in aid of Dystonia Ireland, where 12 teams battled it out over the course of the afternoon at St Brendan’s Park FC’s astroturf pitch.
The tournament saw local bartenders and friends from 12 bars take to the pitches for a fun but competitive afternoon of games, organised by Darren O’Sullivan who works in Benners Hotel.

“It’s been great, I didn’t expect such a great turnout. Everyone’s having fun and we’ve raised around €3,000 so I want to thank everyone who contributed,” said Darren.
Dystonia is a neurological movement disorder characterised by involuntary muscle contractions which force certain parts of the body into abnormal, sometimes painful, movements or postures. It can affect any part of the body including the arms and legs, trunk, neck, face or vocal cords.
The 12 bars who sent forward teams on the day were The Huddle, Linnane’s Bar, The Blasket, Bailys Corner, Turners Bar, Sean Ogs, The Fiddler, Jack Macs/Paddy Macs, The Ashe Hotel, Benners Hotel, Meadowlands Hotel and The Brandon Hotel.
The Huddle Bar played Meadowlands in the final and despite being 2-0 down, they came back to win 4-2 and brought the cup back to the Strand Street bar after for a celebration drink. Scroll down for photos…
