THE rain stayed away around Tralee as volunteers took to the roads to take part in the annual County Clean-Up day on Saturday.

Almost 6,000 volunteers took part around the county with many schools also joining in on Friday.

The initiative of KWD Recycling and Kerry County Council is now in its seventh year and this year GAA clubs also got on board to help with the clean-up.

Thousands of bags, gloves and litter pickers were distributed and tonnes of rubbish were collected around Kerry. We took a trip around town on Saturday morning and found a few volunteers.

The local Tidy Towns group met at McDonalds before heading out picking rubbish, while we came across dedicated volunteers out in Ballyroe, Lohercannon and Cockleshell Road but, of course there were so many more around town. Well done to all for your efforts. Scroll down for photos…

The 4th Class pupils from Holy Family School (above and below) cleaned Cockleshell Beach this week as part of the Spring Clean 2018. The boys and girls collected approx. 8 bags of rubbish from the area. On return to Holy Family School their in-school litter wardens continued to do a clean-up of the school grounds. Holy Family School participates in the Spring Clean each year.
