Ballyduff 2-12

INJURIES to a great servant of Ballyduff, David O’Grady and Kilmoyley’s Tom Murnane, held up the game twice during the first half with the second half starting late to facilitate the removal from the field of Tom Murnane by ambulance.

Earlier David O’Grady was also taken to hospital by ambulance when he was injured in a tackle. Both injuries were totally accidental.

While all paramedics who attended both players worked diligently, there seemed to be no official doctor on duty at the game.

The players were well attended to, like I said, and accidents will happen, but medical assistance should be available.

I wish both players well in their recovery.

Ballyduff came into this championship with very little preparation. They were beaten by Causeway in the first round the recovered to defeat Crotta and Abbeydorney.

They looked as if they might have gotten back on track and there was light at the end of the tunnel, unfortunately for them, that light was the light of the oncoming Kilmoyley express train.

Barry O’Grady had them in front within a minute and Ballyduff had three points on the board within seven minutes. A minute and a half later Tom Murnane, James McCarthy and Daniel Collins had Kilmoyley level three points all.

By the 18th minute Kilmoyley and Ballyduff were level, 0-9 each, Kilmoyley’s points coming from Adrian Royle (2), Rob Collins (1) and Sean Maunsell (1) the remainder coming from Daniel Collins.

Aiden Boyle Michael Boyle had a point each with Bobby O’Sullivan adding four prior to the injury to David O’Grady.

On the resumption of play, Daniel Collins put Kilmoyley ahead and then added another as did Dougie Fitzell to leave the halftime score Kilmoyley 0-12 Ballyduff 0-9.

The game could have been level if Bobby O’Sullivan had converted a penalty but his effort was saved.
The Ballyduff challenge was completely derailed in the second half as Kilmoyley went from strength to strength.

Kilmoyley scored two goals, one from Maurice O’Connor and the other from Adrian Royle who was a thorn in the side of Ballyduff all day.

Maurice O’Connor may be only a young lad, but he gave an exhibition of hurling that belied his years.

At the other end of the age range was Micheal Regan, a veteran of many championship battle, he came on and rolled back the years by driving over three points.

Dougie Fitzell, Jordan Brick and Sean Maunsell had points to add to Daniel Collins four.

Ballyduff got a couple of consolation goals from Aiden Boyle and Tomas Rourke with Bobby adding three points and Aiden Boyle putting one between the posts.

The dominance of Kilmoyley was complete especially in the second half. The loss of the great Tom Murnane drove them on to greater effort, their subs upped the ante further to pile misery upon misery for Ballyduff.

Sean Dowling was commanding at fullback and he had a huge battle with Gary O’Brien. Up front the industry of Adrian Royle yielded good possession for their forwards, Royle also ended up with a goal and three points.

Kilmoyley now go on to meet their neighbours St Brendan’s Ardfert in the final.  If both teams can repeat their efforts in the final it should be a cracker.
