TEACHERS from Presentation Secondary School finally had a chance to officially mark the retirement of four colleagues, who left the school over the past three years, at a function in Ballyroe Heights Hotel on Friday night.

With COVID restrictions over the past two years, it was difficult to find the right time to get the all the teachers together, but with the end of the school year in sight, Friday was an opportune time to honour them and celebrate their contribution for many years of service.

Maths and Physics teacher Ann O’Mahony retired in 2020 after 41 years teaching, Norma Barden taught geography in Presentation for 33 years before retiring in the same year, Clem O’Keeffe was 25 years teaching science subjects at the school by the time she retired in 2019, while Gabriel Brennan spent 10 of his 38 years educating at Presentation, teaching PE and chemistry before his retirement in 2021.

“Some of the teachers here have already retired and others have just started in the school, so it’s testament to the esteem in which the four teachers were held that there is such a great turnout here this evening,” said Principal Chrissie Kelly.

“We also have former Presentation teacher, Minister Norma Foley, here. While she has visited us in school on a number of occasions on official engagements, this time it’s a social occasion so it’s lovely to see her relaxed with former colleagues,” said Ms Kelly.
