TWO intrepid Tralee people are taking on a 110km trek this week to raise funds for the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust.

Rachel Boyle from Alderwood Road and Cathal Geary from Caherslee set off this Sunday morning on the gruelling journey which will take them four to five days.

“The 110 km long hike which takes us along the classic Kungsleden, through the mountains and over passes from Nikkaluokta in the south to Abisko in the north, carrying all we need for the 4-5 days!” said Rachel.

“We’re raising funds for the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust. The charity is an extremely worthy cause, any donation no matter how small is HUGELY appreciated,” she said.

Rachel chose this charity because she has a cousin married to man recently diagnosed with Leukemia. He is due to have a bone marrow transplant in September.

“The hike will be long and tough – due to a serious lack of training! – but worth it on many levels. We’re to hoping we reach our final destination without too many blisters, but more importantly that we reach our fundraising target,” said Rachel.
