Mike O’Halloran reports on the AIB Munster Junior Club Hurling Championship Quarter-Final at John Mitchels GAA Grounds on Saturday…

Banner 1-10

Tralee Parnells 0-10

.

It wasn’t to be for Tralee Parnells Hurling & Camogie Club today in the Munster championship where they lost to the Clare campions Banner GAA Ennis by just one score.

How Parnells must rue their missed chances. Parnell’s had opened the scoring but it took them sixteen more minutes to get their next point, in the meantime Banner had added four points.

The score at halftime was Banner 0-5 Parnell’s 0-4. Darragh Reen drew Parnells level at the resumption and it looked like Parnells might cause an upset until they conceded a penalty which Shane Meehan dispatched to the net for Banner, to put them ahead 1-7 to 0-5.

The Parnell’s effort improved greatly in the second half as they changed their puck out strategy and went with the long ball into their inside line.

Parnells were within two points of Banner on 43 minutes but Banner kept their noses in front.

Parnells tried hard to creat a goal scoring oppertunity at the death but that it did not materialise.

All the best to Banner in the coming rounds. Fair play to Parnells for the way they regrouped in the second half, it was a great effort from them given how hampered their preparations were.
