Rian Tuohy, winner of the School Spirit Award for 2023.

RIAN Tuohy was announced as the winner of the Scoil Eoin School Spirit Award for 2023.

The award was devised by the Student Council along with Principal Kieran O’Toole in 2016. This award is not academic award, rather an award in recognition of a pupil who promotes inclusiveness and fairness, is a good role model and displays exemplary behaviour.

Each teacher nominates a pupil from their class. All nominations are sent to Student Council coordinator Mrs. Carol Anne O’Donoghue who meets with the Student Council members to go through the nominations.

This process is done anonymously. The Student Council vote without knowing the identity of the nominees in the interest of fairness.

Today, the three 5th classes were called to the school hall for an announcement. Testament to the anonymity of the voting process, one of the Student Council members Rian Tuohy was announced as this year’s winner.

He had no idea up until the announcement. Rian was nominated by his teacher Ms. Lyons because he is ‘mannerly, respectful to all and honourable. He is talented yet humble’.

His mom Dawn had been informed and was on hand to celebrate with Rian. His dad Leonard who works in the school had been kept in the dark and got a lovely surprise.  Rian was presented with a trophy and his name is now engraved on the School Spirit plaque.
