A CROWD of over 800 people enjoyed a top class night 0f entertainment in the Dome on Saturday as couples competed in the Austin Stacks ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ fundraiser.
“We raised a lot of money on the night. We’re still counting it,” said Austin Stacks Chairman, Aidan O’Connor.
“The crowd we got was huge and the entertainment was just awesome. I met a guy at the interval and who hadn’t been to a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ event before and he said he wouldn’t miss one again after Saturday night,” continued Aidan.
Twelve couples took part in the event and they received huge support from their families and friends, many of whom brought big banners to encourage them.
There were also big screens set up so those who weren’t near the stage got a better view. After paying the €20 entry fee, the audience also had the opportunity to buy votes for their chosen couple. It was €2 for one vote and €5 for three. Eighty percent of the vote was decided by the public and 20% by the judges.
The couples danced individually and in a big group in the course of the night and showed that all the hard work over the past six weeks was worth it.
In the end it was Clair McEvoy and Leon Diggins who were deemed the winners much to the delight of their ‘fans’.
Aidan O’Connor thanked all involved in such a great night, especially, the dancers, Maria Hickey, Siobhan Naughton and Jackie O’Mahoney. All proceeds raised go towards the purchase of the Nun’s Field up in Connolly Park.
