THE first ever Hillbilly’s Junior/Senior Tournament took place in Tralee Tennis Club on Saturday last which saw club members paired up in a doubles competition.
The tournament was the brainchild of Chris Sun, who is the co-owner of Hillbilly’s Chicken Tralee and member of the tennis club. Chris is originally from China, but has been living in Ireland for the past 15 years.
“I wanted to bring families together for a tennis tournament because it’s very important that kids play a sport, also it’s good promotion for Hillbilly’s,” said Chris Sun.
“It has been a fantastic day out, everybody is having a lot of fun,” said Rosemary Broderick, PRO of Tralee Tennis Club.
The tennis club, with four courts on Dan Spring, has gone from strength to strength since it opened four years ago and at present has an incredible 600 members.
“Tennis has taken on a new life in Tralee. There is now a huge waiting list to join the club, we could almost set up another club with the demand that is there,” said Rosemary.
“Because the club is in the centre of the town it is very convenient. Also the fact it is highly visible to people as the pass up along Dan Spring Road helps,” Rosemary said.
“It’s a sport that everyone can play and get involved in no matter what age you are,” she added.
