AN incident of extreme cruelty to two kittens was witnessed on the main road between Ballyduff and Tralee last week.

Shocked motorist, Polly Hartney and her husband Tony were witness to two kittens thrown out of a car, as it travelled along a straight stretch of road near Ballincrossig going towards Tralee from Ballyduff, last Tuesday week, July 26, around 6:30pm in the evening.

Yesterday, Polly gave a harrowing account of what she came across on the ‘Tralee Do You Know’ Facebook page. When speaking to Traleetoday.ie about it today, she was audibly shaken by what she witnessed.

Polly said the kittens were thrown out of the car by two males. The car they were driving was a dark blue hatchback, but all she could recall about the registration plate was that it was old.

Seeing the kittens thrown out of the car she initially went after the dark blue hatchback, but thinking of the welfare of the kittens and barely able to comprehend what had just happened, Polly decided to turn back to see if they survived.

The injuries to the kittens, which were both killed, witnessed by both her and husband Tony were harrowing. Polly was travelling to meet friends in Killarney and the incident left her unable to speak to them about what she had seen.

She said she mustered up the courage to recount the incident yesterday, after seeing a post about a man who cared for a fatally injured dog on the road, posted yesterday on the ‘Tralee Do You Know’ Facebook page.

Polly has not contacted the gardaí about the incident, but if anyone has any information about what happened we’re sure they would like to know.

Surely someone knows this car is for one travel to that area quite a lot and if see a car matching this description I be keeping a close eye on it .

  3. Unfortunately this kind of thing is common in Kerry. There is very little respect for the welfare of animals and it’s shocking and saddening.

  4. We are as appalled as Polly by what happened to these unfortunate kittens. Sadly this is not the first nor will it be the last time that this type of cruelty is perpetuated. There are an unprecedented number of kittens looking for homes at present and it is increasingly hard to find suitable owners. We would appeal to anyone owning a cat, male or female, to make sure it is neutered at the earliest possible opportunity. We are able to offer limited financial help to cat owners to enable this essential treatment to be carried out.

I hope these sick evil bastards rot in hell and die screaming before they get to hell. Prison is not good enough for these scumbags. People that kill animals usually go on to kill people. If somebody saw this they should have given chase and got the car reg or if someone was brave enough and beat the shite out of them with iron bars until they beg for mercy. I hope they have no luck for it. Some day their time will come and THEY should be left to die without medical intervention if they need it.

This type of barbaric cruelty is rife all over the country and nothing is done about it. Animal welfare organisations can only do so much. People please show some respect for animals, there are plenty shelters all over the country, just drop any unwanted animals into them where can be adopted into caring and kind families. At least show them some respect and dignity.
