All roads lead to Tallaght next Saturday
Our Senior Men travel to Dublin on Saturday 30th January for the Hula Hoops Mens Intermediate National Cup Final vs BC Leixlip Nemunas.

Tip off for the game is 12pm at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. We are trying to encourage all club members and basketball lovers to make the trip and support our lads.

We have a great club with fantastic kids, committee, parents, sponsors and it would be great to see a big support in the biggest game for the club in years.

A supporters bus will leave Moyderwell at 7am on Saturday morning and the cost is just €15 return and will be supervised.

Contact Fergal on (085) 1188533 to book your seat!! Get on the bus, show your colours and support your club. Thanks to our sponsors The Castle Bar, Paddy Power and K9 Cabs, without them the Cup run wouldn’t have been possible. Lets go Brendan’s!!!!!!!

Ladies County League Div 2

St Brendan’s 59 HHS Lixnaw 39

St Brendan’s continued their run of good form last week with a comprehensive win over away to HHS Lixnaw in the Ladies Div 2 County League.

Both sides started off going basket for basket with the home side coming out on top leading the end of the first quarter 16-14pts.

In the second quarter Brendan’s picked up the pace with great defence by Laura Griffin keeping the home side at bay and great rebounding by Eimear Galvin left St Brendan’s leading 24-18 at half time.

In the third quarter Brendan’s found their range with great shooting by Sarah Carey and Claire O’Sullivan giving them a comfortable lead of 51-30 going into the last quarter.

In the final quarter Lixnaw battled hard but baskets from Carmel Roche, Elaine Bailey and Ariane Finnegan saw St. Brendan’s win out with 20 points to spare. The final score was St Brendan’s 59 HHS Lixnaw 39.

Team and scorers: Sarah Carey 18pts, Claire O Sullivan 16pts, Carmel Roche 7pts, Elaine Bailey 5pts, Eimear Quaid 3pts, Laura Griffin 4pts, Ariane Finnegan 2pts Katelyn O Sullivan 2pts, Jillian Kerins

Boys U16 Div 3

St. Brendan’s 39 St. Anne’s 31

The home team got off to a great start clocking up an 8 point lead before St. Anne’s got out of the blocks with all scores coming from Steven Bowler and George Reidy.

The second quarter proved to be more evenly contested and good defence from John O’Mahony and Barry Sugrue saw Brendan’s lead by 6 at half time.

The match was ultimately decided in the 3rd quarter when Steph Curry type scores from Dylan McHugh with 6 unanswered points along with great scores from Eoin Cahill and great general play from Daniel Fok Seang, Nathan Commerford and Cian Harris.

This put the home team up by 13 going to last quarter. Despite being outscored in the last quarter but with great play from Michael Dowling and Jake Reidy it ensured a great victory. Well done to Captain Alusin Jah and coach Donald.

Boys U14 Div3 Pool A

St. Brendan’s 36 St. Anne’s 25

Brendan’s secured a good win against St. Anne’s of Faranfore last week. Both sides began brightly in the first quarter with the teams evenly matched.

Jack Clapham’s ball handling was solid and Sam McCarthy and Joshua Roche played good defence. Graham Sheehy scored 3 free throws and Nelly Olanrewaju’s effort under the offensive boards paid off when he caught his own rebound and put the ball straight back into the net.

St. Anne’s shaded it 6-5 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter Brendan’s couldn’t catch a break despite some well-chosen shots from Daniel Bowler, Ryan McHugh, and Liam Kingston they refused to go through the net.

A single basket from Brendan’s go-to-scorer Garry Lynch was all they could manage while at the other end Anne’s scored 3 giving them a 12 – 7 lead at half-time.

In the third quarter the teams went basket for basket and Daniel Bowler made a couple of sweet cuts down the centre of the paint receiving the pass and taking some good scores.

Sam McCarthy rebounded solidly and was unlucky not to get more than the single basket he scored for all his effort. Graham Sheehy found it hard to penetrate the Anne’s defence but scored two baskets in the quarter. Jack Clapham was rewarded with free throws for his hard work and took away a point.

Anne’s equalled Brendan’s 10 points so were still 5 points adrift as we headed into the final quarter. Brendan’s offence never really managed to come together perhaps stifled by the smaller than usual court.

Anne’s executed a few fast breaks that left the Brendan’s defence standing and went on a run with 5 of their players each getting a share of 14 points. Baskets in response from Sam McCarthy and Garry Lynch were too little and too late.

The game finished 36–25 to St. Anne’s.  While there was no questioning the excellent effort made by all members of the team it was a disappointing result illustrating why we still have a lot to improve on if we are to challenge for the Division 3 Plate.

Players & scorers: Garry Lynch 8;  Graham Sheehy 7; Sam McCarthy 4; Daniel Bowler 3; Nelly Olanrewaju 2; Jack Clapham 1; Liam Kingston; Declan Mangan;

Joshua Roche; Ryan McHugh; Matthew Hussey; Denis Malihin; Matthew O’Mahony

St. Brendan's U12 Squad

St. Brendan’s Boys U12 Div 1 side that enjoyed a great 31-23 win over St. Bridget’s last week.

Boys U12 Div 1

St Brendan’s 31

St. Bridget’s 23

The U12s had a great victory last Tuesday night at home to the undefeated St Bridget’s in Currow. Our boys had good start to the game with Edward Sheehy point guarding and driving well to the basket for some good scores.

Great defence from Donal O’Sullivan, Edward Sheehy and Cillian Litchfield helped keep St Bridget’s to just 7pts. Some good screens on offence allowed Andrew Wallace to score 2 good layups and finished the quarter with 6pts.

Jack Doyle had St Bridget’s offence in lots of trouble and went to the free throw line 3 times in the 1st quarter.

The second quarter saw St Bridget’s bring on some of their bigger players that caused us some trouble but great defense from Cian Griffin, Jack Doyle and Simon Carey helped steady the ship. Coren Hughes made some great moves on offence and had an important score late in the quarter.

The third quarter started much like the first with good scores from Edward Sheehy and Andrew Wallace. Tom Flavin caught some great rebounds on defence and offence and a good score from Dean Farrell from the free throw line helped St Brendan’s to a 10-point lead and the end of the third quarter.

St Bridget’s started to reduce the gap early in the final quarter with some great scores and had to step it up doing so with some excellent defence from Donal O’ Sullivan, Simon Carey and Jack Doyle. A final score from Coren Hughes sealed a great victory with the final score St. Brendan’s 31 St. Bridget’s 23

Scorers: Andrew Wallace 10pts, Edward Sheehy 9pts, Jack
Doyle 5pts, Coren Hughes 4pts, Donal O’Sullivan 2pts, Dean Farrell 1pt
