Boys U18s County League

St. Brendan’s 63 Gneeveguilla 56

Last Tuesday evening St. Brendan’s secured their second win of the season over a very strong Gneeveguilla side. Brendan’s started the game well with Dominic Craig sinking three 3s in the first quarter. However Gneeveguilla were also on the mark and kept pace with the hosts. Brendan’s continued to find their range through James Roche and Ama Lelental and the teams continued to trade baskets and were literally going score for score. While Dominic Craig was getting numerous assists to the Brendan’s centre, Kasparas Buivydas while Gneeveguilla were getting some lovely baskets, the majority coming from Shane O’Sullivan. The score entering the third quarter was 29-24 in favour of St. Brendan’s.

In the second half and with one of Brendan’s top scorers in foul trouble, one of the rookie players Brandon Patterson made his entrance to the game. He proved he was more than able to play at this high level of intensity by getting many blocks, steals and rebounds. This new boost of energy affected the rest of the team as well with blocks and steals coming from Ama Lelental and Dwight Bacalso. Gneeveguilla refused to give up however and with Shane O’Sullivan’s scores keeping the East Kerry side in the game. It all came down to the final quarter when once again Dominic Craig stepped up and knocked down yet another 3 pointer to maintain Brendan’s advantage. In the final exchanges Brendan’s landed some key scores through Kaspar, Dwight and Brandon to see out the victory on a final scoreline of St. Brendan’s 63 Gneeveguilla 56.
