REPORTS ;
(U13) SFAI Regional Cup 1/4 Final ; Moneypoint 1-3 Park Fc ;
Park took the ferry to Clare for this Regional quarter final against Moneypoint. Dark clouds threatened a deluge as we crossed the Shannon but although the lights were on for the 2 o’clock kick off the weather improved as the game went on.
Moneypoint had been narrowly knocked out of the National Cup recently and were in no mood to make it easy for the Park boys on their home turf.

Straight from the kick off Park were on the back foot as the Moneypoint boys were winning the 50/50s and it was obvious the journey as well as last weekends heroics had
taken a lot out of the Park lads.
Almost against the run of play Cianan Cooney was put through and just as he was about to score he was tripped inside the box. He dusted himself down and buried the resultant penalty.
Cue plenty of pressure from a Moneypoint team who never gave up and had some fine players in their ranks.
The Park followers, again travelling in numbers, were trying their best to drive the boys on but they were barely hanging on.

The pitch had soaked up a lot of rain and consequently passes were not reaching their intended destination. However Park soaked up everything that was thrown at them and reached half time with their lead intact.

Early second half pressure from Moneypoint seemed sure to level matters up but staunch defensive work kept them at bay. On a rare Park attack a corner was won and from Colin Doody’s ball into the box Kieran O’Connor pounced with a fine finish.

Park now began to play with more thought and guile and suddenly the ball didn’t seem so heavy, the pitch didn’t seem to hold the ball as much and sure enough the third followed.
Cianan Cooney, who had an excellent game, went by a few players and when his shot rebounded to Adam Wharton his finish was cool and clinical.
Sometimes you go three up and the opposition give up. Not these boys from Moneypoint. They kept going to the end and were justly rewarded with a goal right on full time.

We were deserving winners but we came up against excellent opposition on the day.
All our players, management and supporters would like to wish Moneypoint all the best for the rest of the season. You were a credit to your club on and off the pitch. Thank you for the kind welcome and hospitality.

Thanks once again to our supporters who made the second long journey in two weekends. You are brilliant. Thanks to Brenda and Maeve especially for taking the car instead of their positions on the bus so that others could travel. #Teamwork.

We now move into the semifinals of the Regional tournament and last 16 of the National Cup which are both at home. Exciting and challenging times ahead but this bunch of boys will give it everything.

Panel: Adam Wharton, Danny Jeffers, Jack Kearney, Ben Hanafin, David Feeley, Messiah Chirwah, Cianan Cooney, Colin Doody, Josh Connolly, Sean O’Connor, Conor Kerins, Sean O’Connell, Sean Hill, Kieran O’Connor, Samuel Aledasanusi and Liam Carmody.
