Under 12 (2006)

On Saturday last our U12A team travelled to Killarney Athletic in the Skechers SFAI Cup 3rd round. In the opening quarter of the first half it was pretty frantic with both side looking threatening. We had the better of possession and we were unfortunate not to take the lead when a lovely one-two down our right had side between Aaron Powell and Andrew Kerins saw Aaron through with the keeper and his shot was well saved at the near post from the Athletic goalkeeper. Athletic thought they had an opportunity to score when their striker raced through on Oisin O’Halloron’s goal and as he was lining up his shot in came Immanuel Manu with a wonderfully timed sliding tackle to spare his keeper having to be called into action keeping the game scoreless. We began to control the game more and more. In goal Oshìn O’Halloran hadn’t much to do with Immanuel Manu & James Fisher dominant in defence winning the ball back in what seemed almost every occasion that they faced a direct opponent, with Andrew Kerins(right) & Ciarán Kavanagh(left) bombing up and down the wings at every opportunity, our midfield trio of Nathan Aherne,Bruno Browzy & Aaron Powell controlling the middle third of the pitch and with Seamus Kelly Up front causing a lot of problems to the Athletic defence with his direct running towards the Athletic goal. As legs began to tire towards the end of the half we replaced Aaron and Bruno for Jay Jay Olajitan & Jack Slattery in the 24th min. A tactical switch was needed with Seamus dropping into midfield to replace Bruno and Jack going in as the no.10 for Aaron which meant Jay Jay slotting in up front. With less then a minute of the changes we reaped an instant reward, Ciarian Kavanagh and Seamus Kelly combined down the left to set Jay Jay away, he bust through towards the Athletic goal at a almost light speed with the defenders trailing in his wake, when he arrived on the edge of the box he had the composure and presence of mind to look inside to see Jack who’s movement was superb to find a pocket of space and Jay Jay’s perfectly waited pass to was finished expertly by Jack to put us in front with a fantastic fluid move. We pressed for a second goal before half time, and almost got one when Seamus forced a corner. Jack from our right took the corner right footed, it was almost the inch perfect he floated the ball over to the back post only to see his delivery cannoned off the up right to go agonisingly wide and see us going in at halftime with a deserved 1-0 lead.

At half time we introduced Justin O’Sullivan for Nathan , who had pick up a knock. Mid way through the second half Justin received the ball out wide on the left just in the opposition half he drove at the first on coming defender jinking past him in towards the corner of the box as the second defender approached Justin turned on the style, he did a 360 roulette like Zidane in his prime, as the next defender tried in vain to win the ball Justin with the faintest of touches flicked the ball past him to set himself right in the top of the box and with composure well beyond his years gave the Athletic keeper no chance with his shot back across goal as it looked like he was going to shoot to the keepers near side. A superb individual goal from Justin that put us in the driving seat. Athletic were still looking dangerous on the counter attack and they forced Oisin into a superb save with his right foot to consolidate his clean sheet. We almost got a third from Jack, Justin again drove in from the left hand side when he was up ended to win a free kick about 20 yards from goal, Jack free kick was perfectly waited strike had the keeper beaten and seemed to be heading towards the top corner only for an Athletic defender to head it on to the cross bar and out for a corner. A wonderful effort on goal followed by a brilliant defencive clearance to keep the scoreline at 2-0 and that how the game finished.
A great team performance against a good Killarney Athletic team. We had massive performances from Andrew, Jack, Seamus & James. with Immanuel just shading the Man of the Match.

With that being said we’d like thanks the parents of our boys for their brilliant support and Killarney Athletic for the hospitality with a fine spread laid on for us afterwards in their club house.

Team: Oisin O’Halloran (gk), Andrew Kerins, Ciaran Kavanagh, James Fisher, Immanuel Manu, Nathan Aherne, Bruno Browzy, Aaron Powell, Seamus Kelly.
Subs: Marcus Connolly, Sam Fitzgerald, Ryan McMahon, Jack Slattery, Justin O’Sullivan & Jay Jay Olijatian

St Brendan’s Park FC Under 12Bs 3-2 Listowel Celtic Under 12Bs

St Brendan’s Park FC Under 12 Bs took the field against a strong, determined Listowel Celtic side, who started impressively and bossed the first 15 minutes of the game in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

Our defence held firm, with man-of-the-match Rory showing excellent control and touch, backed up by Sean Solomon, Killian and Zach to neutralise Celtic’s rampaging raids. When Celtic did break through, Sean Heaslip was immense in goal.

But we grew into the game, helped by a speedy midfield of Odhran, William and Trey while captain for the day, Eldion, was everywhere in his defensive midfield role, marshalling the defence while inspiring the attack.

With 10 minutes to the half time break, Odhran converted a through ball from Eldion to put us 1-0 up at the break. Coach Paul was full of encouragement at half time, but early in the second half Celtic slipped Park’s offside trap and equalised with a neat finish from their centre forward.

We poured forward in search of a goal and five minutes later it came, Odhran neatly finishing for his second of the game after great movement from attackers Marc and Adam. The game was now incredibly open, with attacks flowing from end to end and the enthusiastic crowd roaring on their charges. Celtic pushed for an equaliser and camped out for long periods in our  half, rattling the crossbar with a thunderbolt of a shot, but from a long though ball from Zach on our next attack, Trey found himself with only the goalkeeper to beat and did so with some style to make it 3-1.

Celtic got a goal back in the dying embers of the game and pushed hard for a leveller in the final few seconds, but it was not to be and we held on for the win in a cracking game.

Under 16 (2002)

U16 Sketchers SFAI Cup

Our 16’s travel to Limerick city on Saturday to play Caherdavin Celtic in the National Cup.
We started the brighter with John Carmody pulling a shot just wide within the first ten minutes & Mervyn following up a few minutes later with another shot across the face of Celtics goal.
A cross from John Carmody in the twenty-sixth minute just missed both Tide & Mervyn inside the box but Terence was following up to finish at the back post.
Within a minute we had doubled our lead as a pinpoint Devon Burns kick out found Mervyn on the last defenders shoulder & once he controlled the ball it was only going one place & that was bottom corner of the net for a fantastic finish.
Celtic replied inside three minutes after we failed to clear a ball on the edge of the box & it was no more than they deserved after a number of chances including one bicycle kick which thankfully sailed over Devons crossbar. Nathan Holden played the pass of the day through the Limerick lads midfield to put John Carmody in on goal but again his shot went inches wide.
Halftime 2 – 1
After fifteen minutes of the restart Terence turned provider after a lovely pass into the box for Mervyn to side foot in. A minute later John once again had to watch his shot drift wide after rolling across the goal line & somehow stay out. Our defence was well on top with Nick & Cian rock solid while Andrew Murphy & Terence Carmody tormented Celtic with their attaching runs from full back.
The final score came on twenty nine minutes of the half when Andrew picked out Mervyn with a beauty & Mervyn finished coolly for his hat-trick.
A great team performance by all with Mervyn picking up the Man of the Match award.
Thanks to Caherdavin Celtic for the hospitality with a fine spread laid on for us afterwards in their club house.

U16B

Our 16B team travelled out to Killarney on Thursday night to play their B’s & we came home empty handed after a three nil defeat. We probably deserved a goal at least for our efforts but Celtic deserved the three points after a very good team display.

Best on the night were Jordan Mason, Robert Kerins, Luke Dennehy, Liam Magee & Greg Scanlon. Next up is a home game versus Mastergeeha.
Under 17 (2001)

Our under seventeen will take on Killarney Athletic in the Denny under seventeen league at 2pm on Saturday @ Chrisy Leahy Park

Youths (2001)
Denny Youth LeaguePark FC 2 : 1 Castleisland

Park were made to work hard to claim all three points in their second league outing.
Castleisland took an early lead on twelve minutes with a snap shot from the edge of the area beating the Park keeper Jack Rogers low to his left hand post.
Park were closed down quickly every time they got on the ball and were forced into long range efforts from Adam Ward and Leon Shalemba by a resilient Castleisland defense and went into the break with a deserved lead.
Park management made positional changes for the second half and brought in Aaron Ward on the right side these changes and higher tempo from the Park players saw them dominate the game. The break thru for the Park came twenty minutes into the half with Jordan Barry breaking down the left and cutting the ball back to Conor O’Brien and he guided the ball low under the advancing keeper.
Park were now totally dominant and wave after wave of attack it was Jordan Barry again gave Park the lead scoring at the back post with a bullett of a header in the seventy fifth minute.Park shut up shop for the final ten minutes and overall deserved the win,
Best for Park ;Jack Donahue – Jordan Barry – Adam Ward – Aaron Ward – Leon Shalemba
Man of Match Shane Jordan
Senior team
Our senior team had a hard earned three points in the Denny division 1B on Sunday last when they faced Castlegregory Celtic in Christy Leahy Park. Goals from Donagh O’Brien & Adam Ward. Man of the Match was Graham O’Nei
