Our goalie of Mary G who bought off a great save in the first half showed her many talents and went in to the forwards on the second half to score winning goal! Our backs showed great heart blocking ball after ball with Ruth showing some of her rugby skills ! Cathy , Sharina and Caroline Reidy cleared ball after ball like they were playing football all their lives!

Our mid field of Theresa and Brenda covered acres of ground with Theresa scoring a goal and a point and Brenda after doing her 11th marathon the day before continued ruining and tackling with great heart!

Seniors:

Division 3 Round 8

Ardfert  2-15   St Pats 0-12

After last week’s disappointment St Pats made the short trip to Ardfert to play this round 8 back game on Saturday evening last. Played in near perfect conditions and with very few spectators in attendance it was Ardfert who made the brighter start opening the scoring with a pointed free from Stephen Leen inside a minute.

St Pats replied with a Kieran Hurley free two minutes later. Ardfert upped the tempo and goaled a minute later when Stephen Leen slipped inside the St Pats cover to rattle the net.

When John Dowling pointed a free a minute later the signs were looking ominous for St Pats. However St Pats regrouped and scored two unanswered points from Kevin O’Shea and Brendan Poff.

St Pats defensive strategy was frustrating Ardfert at this point. Mike Griffin converted another free on the quarter hour mark with David O’Callaghan responding with a point a minute later to leave the scores 1-03 to 0-04 in favour of Ardfert. The last quarter of this half was tight on scores with Ardfert managing one point a free from John Dowling and St Pats registering two pointed frees from David O’Callaghan. Half Time score Ardfet  1-04  St Pats 0-06

Ardfert made a few positional switches at half time and introduced substitute Trevor Wallace into the action. This had the desired effect and with 3 early points from John Egan inside five minutes, Ardfert were on their way to collecting two valuable league points.

David O’Callaghan kicked St Pat’s first point of the half after six minutes of the restart but Ardfert shifted up through the gears and hit four unanswered points of their own over the next ten minutes.

David O’Callaghan who was trying hard scored a second point on the three quarter mark however Ardferts response was decisive with a well taken John Egan Goal a minute later. It was game set and match at this stage. Both sides added scores in the final quarter to leave the final score Ardfert 2-15 St Pats 0-12.

Ardfert were full value for their win and were flying fit on the day. They had good performances from the Horgans and Stephen Leane in defence John Dowling around the middle, Shane Griffin and Man of the Match John Egan up front.

St Pats were best served by Kieran Dwyer, Luke Mulligan, Andy Byrne and David O’Callaghan.

It was a disappointing week for St Pats losing two county league games in succession and putting a huge dent in their promotion hopes. There can be no argument with the result but the one common theme from both games was the poor level of fitness by some key players for St Pats.

St Pats – J Fitzgerald, C Moore, J Costello, K Dwyer, L Mulligan, K O’Shea(0-02 ,0-01F), J Conway, L Poff, P Mc Mahon, A Byrne, B Poff(0-01), D O’Callaghan(0-05, 0-02F), K Hurley (0-03 ,0-02F), G Savage . Subs Used – M O’Sullivan, W Hurley(0-01), J Foley, S Dowling, B Savage.
