LOCAL runners and organisers put the finishing touches to their preparations for the ‘Summer Solstice 10k’ run taking place this Sunday, June 21.

This will be the tenth anniversary of the run which was started back in 2005 by Jim McNeice as he looked to raise money for the ‘Irish Heart Foundation’.

Fast forward ten years and Jim is still at the heart and soul of the run as it prepares to welcome back past winners, who will be looking to take home another victory.

The Irish Heart Foundation is the national charity fighting stroke and heart disease, funded up to 90 per cent by public donations, the mission is to lead in improving the cardiovascular health of people living in Ireland so they do not experience disability or die from preventable heart, stroke and other blood vessel diseases.

The run will be starting on the Neil Armstrong way, outside Siamsa Tire, where it will then head up James Street to O’Rahillys Villas on to Lohercannon through Blennerville left at Tonevane cross, down pass the rugby club and back to the Brandon.

Number collection on the day will be between 4pm to 6pm in the Conference Centre of the Brandon Hotel.

Those looking to register can do so on the ‘Run The Kingdom’ website here.
