THE Ardfert Camera Club met last night in Kerry County Library for the official opening of their fifth annual photography exhibition.
Getting off the group in 2009, the group originally started with six members and has grown to over 30 strong in the years since. Members mainly come from from the Ardfert and Tralee areas.
“There is such an enthusiasm for photography in the area,” said secretary of the Ardfert Camera Club, Francis Foley, at the opening which was performed by Mayor of Tralee, Tom McEllistrim.
There were over 40 quality photos on display representing a wide range of themes from places near and far. Some members of the club are in fact prize winning photographers who have won competitions as far away as the UK.
The club regularly holds competitions and take part in outings. Every level of photographer is catered for, from the high end camera users to your average ‘point and shoot’ cameras.
“There was no camera club in Tralee, so people from the town would have to come to us,” said Francis.
“You will improve if you come to the club. We meet every two weeks in Ardfert Golf Centre, Sackville, for workshops and discussions on Tuesday nights from September through May. We need to get new blood in the whole time as people do move on, but it also shakes up the group as well and keeps it interesting,” added Francis.
