THE annual Austin Stacks Lee Strand u13 invitational football tournament took place on Saturday and Sunday at the Connolly Park grounds and two Tralee teams won trophies.

Na Gaeil beat fellow Tralee team John Mitchels in the Plate Final while Austin Stacks won the main tournament final on Sunday.

Sixteen teams from across the country took part with five Tralee teams involved.

Austin Stacks, the hosts, continued their good form from the Rose Cup victory, as they won their group A including Legion Killarney, Clontarf and Nemo Rangers emerging unbeaten.

In the Cup semi finals they beat a good Salthill team from Galway to land a place in Sunday’s Cup final.

John Mitchels won their local derby match with Churchill on their way to third place in group B behind Salthill and Clontarf. Mitchels then beat Legion in the Plate semi to land a place in Sunday’s plate final.

Kerins O’Rahillys won their match against An Ghaeltacht before also finishing third in their group behind Ballyboden St Endas and Oranmore in Group C.

This put them into the Plate semi against the Group D third placed team.

In a very competitive Group D, Na Gaeil drew with Na Piarsaigh of Cork, beat Cuala of Dublin but lost to Naas to also finish third in their group. The plate semi saw two Tralee teams face off with Na Gaeil proving just too strong for Kerins O’Rahillys.

Na Gaeil beat John Mitchels in the Plate final on Sunday morning, while in the Shield final Clontarf beat Oranmore.  It was Kerry v Dublin in the big one with Austin Stacks beating Ballyboden St Enda’s to cap off a great weekend for the Austin Stacks Club.
