THE St Vincent de Paul team is very active these days in trying to get food hampers to the needy in Tralee and beyond.

On Saturday, local TDs Martin Ferris, Michael Healy Rae and John Brassil helped out at the depot in making up the hampers and to highlight that donations are still needed to help people at Christmas.

“This time of the year is the busiest for us here at St Vincent de Paul,” said Junior Locke of SVP Tralee.

“We estimate that we have to make up around 800 hampers. We are very fortunate that many schools and businesses have already donated many hampers to us. We also accessed FEAD funding for food and this covered a lot of hampers but we still have a long way to go,” said Junior.

“We have a team of 60 volunteers making up the hampers and then the St Vincent de Paul team starts distributing them. We started on Saturday and we’ll continue right up to Christmas,” he said.

St Vincent de Paul are still looking for people to donate food so if you want to help, drop the goods into any of the St Vincent de Paul shops in Friary Lane and Castle Street.
