THERE were plenty options to buy unique Christmas gifts at the Christmas Market at John Mitchels GAA Complex on Sunday afternoon.
There was a steady stream of visitors all day to the sports hall where there was everything from board games, custom-made furniture, candles, jewellery, Christmas decorations and so much more to see among the 50 stalls set up.
If visitors felt peckish, then Gallys were on hand with soup, sandwiches and desserts, while there were loads of spot prizes to be won in the raffle.
All Covid guidelines were followed and everyone sanitized and wore a mask throughout. The market will return again next Sunday, December 19 from 12-5pm so it’s well worth heading over for a look and you might find that special gift for Christmas. MTU students brought a bit of a Christmas buzz to campus to the Tralee North Campus on Wednesday with an outdoor Christmas Market.
Following a challenging 20 months for students and staff of MTU Kerry with the onset of Covid-19, final year BA Event Management organised the market featuring the best of local arts and crafts stalls, food & coffee vendors, as well as musicians and performers from the college.
The market was planned, organised, designed and managed by the students as part of their Event Operations Management module, and had sustainability as an underpinning theme of the event.

All vendors and suppliers were sourced locally where possible, and vendors committed to not using single use plastics at the event.
The students promoted the event through social media, with very limited use of posters and no flyers printed.
The students also partnered with a local charity, Adapt Kerry, with all funds raised from the event being donated to the charity. All decorations used as part of the event will also be donated.
The festive atmosphere was the talking point on campus as the plaza was filled with the smells, tastes and sounds of Christmas.
DJ and MTU student Adam Driver warmed up the crowd, before student musicians created a Christmas singalong for attendees at lunchtime.
The Christmas market gave all attendees something to remember such as a keepsake from the photobooth or a unique, sustainable gift for from the local craft stalls.
Speaking on behalf of the final year Event Management group, Tralee native Dawn Lenihan commented; “At first, the thought of planning an event from start to finish seemed like a mountain to climb, but once we got stuck in we were able to use all the project management and business knowledge we had gained on the course to organise today’s market.
“We have been very appreciative of the support we have received from all of our sponsors and MTU Kerry, and it has also been a great opportunity to raise money for Adapt Kerry Women’s Refuge. Today will be a valuable experience we can carry forward into our future careers in the event industry”.
The student group organised the event project fully in line with current Covid-19 guidelines, and due to current restrictions, the event was also limited to MTU staff, students and the campus community.
The students would like to thank local business who supported the market, including main event partners The Meadowlands Hotel, The Blasket and Foleys Garage, Moyvane. Scroll down for photos…

“We have all kinds of crafters and they vary every week. We have bakers, people who make Christmas decorations, hampers, diaper cakes, picture frames and more. It’s great to have a place indoors for the crafters to show their wares. They come from all over Tralee.
“We rent the tables to the crafters at a very affordable rate so it’s fantastic for them and the money we collect goes towards the rent for the Tralee Socialstore,” said Ruth.
The Tralee Socialstore offers food that is surplus to requirements, best before items, cosmetic damaged goods, that would otherwise end up in landfill. Their objective is to give low income families an opportunity to obtain food for their family, to reach those with dietary requirements, such as cardiac, diabetes and other diseases so that they can reach their recommended food intake requirements.
Many businesses in town have come onboard and donated food and other items. The shop is open on weekdays form 12noon to 2.30pm. The craft market is open from 10am to 5.30pm every Saturday. Scroll down for photos…
