Council Asks Public To Limit Visits To Civic Amenity Sites

.

KERRY County Council’s five Civic Amenity Sites (Kenmare, Killarney, Milltown, Dingle and Cahersiveen) remain open for the receipt of domestic waste from customers without an existing door-to-door, kerbside service and who need to dispose of household waste during the current period of COVID-19 restrictions.

However, the centres are currently experiencing high volumes of visits by members of the public which usually occurs in the post-Christmas period.

Members of the public are asked to visit the centres if waste needs to be disposed of urgently and to limit travelling to centres as much as possible.

Members of the public are also reminded of the 5km travel restriction currently in place and the advice to remain at home except for essential reasons.

Having regard to Level 5 restrictions and in the interests of public health and minimising the numbers of people circulating at each of the centres, Kerry County Council has put the following measures in place:

• Traffic management and a queueing system is in place at all sites and this may lead to short delays for those visiting the centres
• Just one occupant should leave vehicles on site in the interest of reducing numbers of people circulating at the sites
• Members of the public are asked not to bring items to sites which do not need to be disposed of urgently
• Members of the public are asked to adhere strictly to social distancing and to wear a face covering while on site
• Customers are asked to use credit/debit cards payments as far as possible.

All Civic Amenity Sites To Fully Reopen From Monday

.

Kerry County Council has advised that from next Monday, June 8th, all Civic Amenity sites around the county will fully reopen for business.

The Civic Amenity sites in Kerry had reopened on a phased basis since Monday, May 18th, but were only accepting domestic black bag waste and recycling at the depots as well as cardboard and glass and cans at Bottle Banks.

However, in line with the Roadmap for Reopening Society & Business and having assessed the lifting of the travel limit from 5km to 20km, as well as activity levels, it is intended that the Civic Amenity Centres will resume normal activities next Monday June 8th.

This includes accepting trailers as well as Waste Electrical and Scrap Metal at Civic Amenity sites in addition to the domestic waste and recyclables outlined above.

Customers will continue to be advised that delays may be experienced to ensure that social distancing is maintained on all sites. The current queuing system in place for customers to enter the sites will remain in place with ground markings at 2m intervals. Traffic Management arrangements will remain in place as well.

Given the likely customer numbers presenting at our sites on restoration to full service, all sites will open for full days on Monday and Thursday of next week to ensure queuing and social distancing can be maintained.

This includes the Civic Amenity Sites in Cahirciveen and Dingle which would normally be closed on a Monday will be open and these sites will also remain open on Thursday afternoon.

The proposed Phased restoration of services above will be kept under regular review and may be adjusted subject to any Government/Public Health advice and guidance as we move forward

Civic Amenity Sites To Accept Cardboard, Glass And Cans For Recycling From Monday

.

FROM Monday next, May 18, the five Kerry County Council Civic Amenity Sites will resume the acceptance of cardboard, glass and cans for recycling.

Since the imposition of COVID-19 restrictions, services at the Civic Amenity Sites in Killarney, Cahersiveen, Milltown, Lios Póil, and Kenmare, have been limited to the receipt of household waste from those without an existing waste collection service and material for recycling in EcoSense bags.

Kerry County Council has begun the phased resumption of normal services at Civic Amenity Sites and has assessed the public safety impact of the resumption of certain services having regard to the Government Roadmap for the Reopening of Society and Business.

A spokesperson for Kerry County Council said: ‘The social distancing regime implemented at all sites and the traffic management/queuing systems already in place will continue to be observed and managed and we would ask for patience from all customers at this time as we move to this new phase of reopening certain services.’

The following restrictions continue to apply in the interests of public health and safety:

• Only one occupant per car will be admitted to the sites
• Only cars will be admitted – no trailers or larger vehicles
• Payments should be made by credit/debit card where possible
• Social distancing is to be maintained on all sites at all times
