COISTE NA NOG

FAOI 16: Ballymac 2-08 Scart/Cordal 3-12
We played the semi final of U16 County League last Wednesday evening at home to Cordal/Scart, in wonderful conditions but after a titanic struggle we just came up short. Great credit must be given to the players on the night who put in a huge effort. We like to wish Cordal/Scart the best of luck in the final.

FAOI 14 : BALLYMAC 2-7 ARDFERT 0-6
We won our first trophy of the season in the Central Region Division 3 final played at home on bank holiday Monday against Ardfert. A low scoring game, with our first points coming from Josh and Daire Keane. Brian Lonergan and Tadhg Brick were doing well at midfield, Tadhg passing to Josh who soloed through for a super goal. Further points were scored by Daire Keane(2) and Liam O’Brien while at the other end good defending and poor shooting kept Ardfert’s score down. A Daire Keane free was misjudged by the goalie and Dara Chawke was on hand to finish to the net. Dylan McHugh, Diarmuid Lynch and James Carmody all helped us to lead at half time 2-6 to 0-1 Daire Keane getting another point.

It was all Ardfert in the second half as they piled on the pressure. Tremendous defensive work was done by Barry Lyons , Josh and Dara Leen who were ably assisted by Cathal Dunne, Eoin Culloty, Liam O’Brien, Kevin Lenihan and Davy Rodgers who was on man marking duties. Ardfert came forward in droves yielding four points and luckily for us at least as many wides. Chances were scarce for us our only score a Daire Keane point mid way through the half. Ardfert got another point but could got not get the goal they needed and credit for this must go to our defensive set up.

A comfortable winning margin though it might have been closer had Ardfert not had so many wides. Damien McCarthy secretary of the central region thanked sponsors Kellihers garage and also Jer Lynch and Ballymac club for use of the pitch. He then presented the man of the match award to a deserving Josh O’Keeffe. A delighted captain Daire Keane accepted the winning trophy and thanked mentors Tony, Gene, Willie, Martin and Mike. Thanks to Paula, Deirdre, Siobhan, and Trish who provided refreshments afterwards and also to Orla Keane who sang the national anthem. TEAM B Lyons, K Lenihan, C Dunne,E Culloty,L O’Brien, J O’Keeffe, D Leen, T Brick, B Lonergan, D McHugh, D Rodgers, J Carmody, D Chawke, D Keane (capt) D Lynch..Subs D Broderick, J Mc Donnell, D Dunne, E Leahy, C Nolan, D Nolan, J Sugrue, D Lenihan, J Lowe D Lynch, A Jah.

Ballymac U14 team with the Central Region Div 3 Trophy which they won after defeating Ardfert last Monday 4th Aug in the final played at Ballymac Pitch on a scorline of 2 07 to 0 06. Ballymac's Josh O Keeffe also picked up the Man of the Match award.

FAOI 11: On Saturday our under elevens travelled to Firies to play in the local blitz. We played three games against Fr Caseys ,Dr Crokes and Glenflesk. We were unlucky in the first game against a big physical Fr Caseys team, going under by a couple of points in the end. Our team gave it their all and players to impress in this game were Cathal Culloty, Gary Lynch, Mark O’ Connor and Darragh Sweeney. Against Dr Crokes we played very well in the first half and led by 2 points at half time having conceded a late goal before the break. Our lads continued to play brilliantly in the second half and looked to have the game won only for Crokes to snatch a goal on the stroke of full time to win by the narrowest of margins. Players to impress in this game were Ryan Mc Hugh, Thomas O’Connor, James Kenny, Adam Kelly and Padraig O’Sullivan.

In our third game against Glenflesk ,we again displayed some great skill. Two superb goals from Denis Brosnan and Donal Daly had us in a great position, but Glenflesk hit us on the break with two goals in two minutes, to win by two points in a cracking game of football. Players to impress in this game were James Bailey, Adam O’Keeffe and Maurice O Connell. Well done to everyone involved , many thanks to Firies GAA for making it a wonderful day and to all the parents who travelled to Firies bringing with them wonderful support for the boys.

Last Tuesday evening we welcomed St. Pats to Ballymac in Round 5 of Coiste Trá Lí league. In sunny conditions the crowd were treated to a wonderful game of football & great credit must be given to both sets of players on the evening. We have Austin Stacks left to play in this competition, which has been put back to a later date.

ACADEMY: Many Thanks to Na Gaeil for inviting our U8’s & U6’s in to Tralee on Sunday morning for a mini blitz. The U6 boys fully participated for the duration of Blitz and in particular Cian Gilroy, Micheal Quirke, John Leen, Eoghan Joy, Aaron Crean and Ryan Burke were very impressive on the day. Mile Buiochas also to St. Pats for inviting in U10 boys. Those who impressed on the day were Diarmuid Galvin, Eoin Creedon, Niall Collins, Sean Rice and Aidan Horgan. Well Done to all age groups that attended Academy on Sunday morning despite the wet conditions. A great effort was also put in by the U10 girls. Keep up the great work.

SYMPATHY
The Club wishes to offer its sympathy to the family of Sean Geaney, Reamore who died recently. Also condolonces to the Cooper family Killarney on the death of Mrs Maureen Cooper. Her son Colm was to attend the Opel Sponsored U10 Blitz due to be played in Castleisland last Saturday. As a mark of respect this was cancelled and it is hoped this will be played at a future date.

Juniors:

Junior County League Division 5 Final: St Pats 4-06 Duagh 2-07

Pride of place this week goes to our Junior team who won their respective county league final last Thursday night. The final was played in Knocknagoshel in perfect conditions with both teams giving us a very entertaining game of football. Duagh started very well and were up 1-02 to 0-01 after 6 minutes with Sean Dowling getting our point. We were slow to start but with Jeffrey Foley and Anthon O’Callaghan beginning to dominate midfield, we came into the match strongly.

In the 10th minute, Thomas (Massi) O’Sullivan finished a well worked move to the net as we took control of the game and two minutes later, the same player scored his second goal with the score of the game as the ball was worked from the corner back up the field with eight players involved. David Kerins got a point in the 13th minute to lead by 2-02 to 1-02.

Brandon Boyle scored a goal in the 17th minute after been set up by more attacking play from our wing backs Jake Foley and Paudie O’Connor with Jordan Conway also involved. Brendain Savage was playing well and got his reward in the 24th minute when he finished another move with a goal with James Costello involved in setting him up for a well taken score.

We were dominant all over the field at this stage. Jake Foley and Jordan Conway scored two more points and we were leading by11 pts in the 28 min of the first half. However, we were guilty of a couple of bad wides and we were punished in injury time as Duagh scored a well take goal to take the lead down to 8 points at half time. St Pats 4-04 Duagh 2-02.

The second half began with Duagh scoring 3 points to reduce the lead to 5 points. The backs were under pressure as Duagh looked for a goal but John (Fizzy) Fitzgerald in goals was not going to be beaten and his full back line of Killian Quirke, Jack Quilter and Joe Costello were on top as they foiled several attempts at goal that Duagh so badly needed. David Kerins scored a point in the 42nd minute to put us up by 6 points and in the 44th minute, Massi scored a well take point before he was replaced due to injury by Simon Daughton who played very well when introduced into the game.

Duagh got two more points to reduce the score to 5 points. At this stage, Paul O Sullivan, Aidan O Halloran & Eoghan Dillane came into the game and worked hard for the team. As time ran out, Duagh went for broke but our defence stood strong to hold out for a great win. Both sides deserve great credit for a sporting match.

A special mention for our 8 minors who all contributed to the winning of the league and in doing so picked up a third county league medal in as many years. After the final whistle, Tim Murphy from the County Boardpresented Anthon O’Callaghan (Cpt) with the trophy who gave a wonderful speech as gaeilge thanking all involved in this great win.

Team-John (Fizzy) Fitzgerald, Killian Quirke, Joe Costello, Jack Quilter, Paudie O Connor, James Costello, Jake Foley(0-01), Jeffrey Foley, Anthon O’Callaghan (Cpt), Jordan Conway(0-01), Brendan Savage(1-00), Sean Dowling(0-01), Brandon Boyle(1-00), Thomas (Massi) O Sullivan (2-01), David Kerins (0-02), Simon Daughton, Paul O’Sullivan, Aidan O’Halloran & Eoghan Dillane.

Seniors:

Our seniors resume county league action this weekend where they travel to Gneevguilla to take on the locals. The game is fixed for Sunday with a throw-in time of 3:30pm. We wish the team and management the best of luck. Cúl Camps: The Kellogg’s GAA Football Camp will take place in Blennerville from next Monday July 28th to August 1st . The camp is for boys & girls aged 6 to 13. We would hope to increase on the huge numbers that we had last year.

Each child will be given free sports gear. GAA players will teach the skills of Gaelic Football in a safe and fun filled environment from Monday to Friday10am to 2.30pm. Registration is online at www.kelloggsculcamps.gaa.ie. We encourage as many of our juvenile players to register.

Juvenile Academy:

Our Juvenile Academy returns this Sunday after a short summer break with games for our Under 6’s & Under 8’s versus Ballymacelligott in Blennerville. Unfortunately, the Ballymacelligott Under 10 team will be participating in a blitz elsewhere so our Under 10’s will have training as usual. All players to be at the clubhouse at 10:30am as normal.

Under 11’s:

Our u11’s had a busy week last week playing 2 matches. We played on Tuesday night at home against Kerins O’Rahillys but unfortunately we were well beaten by a stronger team. On Thursday night we travelled to Ardfert and we saw a much improved performance from our boys only beaten by 6 points.

Under 12’s:

Our u12’s travelled to Killarney last Wednesday to participate in a well organised blitz in Fitzgerald’s Stadium. Our boys played 3 games against Castlegregory, Currow and Kerins O’Rahillys making their club very proud winning 2 out of 3. All players were treated with an unexpected surprise when they met Kerry footballer Fionn Fitzgerald followed by a tour of Fitzgerald’s stadium. A fun day was had by all players and to finish off a great day, our players were treated to McDonalds.

Well done to all involved. Under 13’s: Our u13’s played away to Austin Stacks on Sunday evening but due to a shortage of players, we were beaten in the end. It was a very tight first half with both sides showing great skill and determination. Martin Savage opened our scoreline scoring 2 consecutive goals.

We failed to score any points in the first half while Austin Stacks were popping the ball over the bar. Before half time Cormac Lynch planted the ball into the net after receiving a great ball from Matthew Quilter.

Once again Niall McCarthy played a blinder in goals allowing no ball to pass him in the first half. Half time score Austin Stacks 0-11 St Pats 3-0. In the second half after missing numerous scoring opportunities, Danny Greaney lobbed the goal keeper scoring our fourth goal in the game.

We eventually saw our first point of the game from Martin and he followed this with another fine point. We scored very little in the second half and Matthew Quilter scored our final point just before the final whistle.

Team: Niall McCarthy, Samuel Abubaker, Brian Teahan, Kieran O’Donoghue, Ian McCarthy, David Faido, Martin Savage(2-2), Cathal Fitzgibbon, Cormac Lynch(1-0), Aaron O’Brien, Michael Doody, Danny Greaney(1-0) and Matthew Quilter(0-1).

Under 16’s:

Our Under 16’s had a good away win over Ballyduff in the Central League last week on a score line of 1-9 to 1-5. They are scheduled to play Fossa Wednesday night July 23rd at 7:30pm over in Fossa. All players to be at the clubhouse at 6pm.
