Music Trail Acts Announced For Dingle’s Other Voices

OTHER Voices will return to its roots in Dingle from December 2nd – 4th for the 21st year and the acts to feature on the Dingle Gin Music Trail have been announced.

The annual weekend in the heart of winter brings together an incredible weekend of music on the peninsula and Dingle’s beloved bars, backrooms and basements will be brimming with three days and nights of blistering live sets from some of Ireland’s most exciting voices.

While the St. James Church artists will be revealed in the coming weeks, the acts to play venues, pubs, cafes and shops dotted throughout the town on the Dingle Gin Music Trail have been announced today.

Among the acts are Anamoe Drive, the solo vehicle of songwriter & multi-instrumentalist Oisín Leahy Furlong – best known as the frontman for Dublin psych-pop band Thumper.

Indie rock with charming lo-fi vibes comes from four-piece Banríon. Expect pop belters with glorious catchy choruses from Blood Donor aka Luke Reilly (ex-Otherkin).

Delicious new wave pop from RTÉ 2FM rising artist Bobbi Arlo, while hip hop crew Bricknasty serves up infectious energy on stage.

Newcomer Efé will bring a sunny slice of bedroom pop to the trail, plus, catch one of the most exciting names in the Irish hip-hop and rap scene, Galway-born artist Celaviedmai.

Shoegaze indie rock comes from Dublin artist Cruel Sister while one of Limerick’s finest folk singers Emma Langford also performs.

Kerry native Junior Brother masters his richly lyrical folk followed by Galway’s contemporary folk artist Niamh Regan.

The duo Nixer fuse spoken word vocals, guitar and synths. Dublin’s Papa Romeo mix elements of nu jazz to their indie rock roots and post-punk trio Pretty Happy are one live act you need to witness.

Indie-pop comes from Derry artist Reevah and Belfast collective Robocobra Quartet bring their signature experimental jazz.

Championed by NME and BBC Radio 6, Dublin band SPRINTS ooze raw, raucous and honest post-punk.

The Outside, the new collaborative project between musician/producer David Kitt and DJ/sound artist Aoife O’Neill will make their Other Voices debut.

Influenced by pop, soul and jazz they have the uber-talented multi-instrumentalist and songwriter ULY while Belfast’s Wynona Bleach will exude alternative rock energy.

The Dingle Gin Music Trail will feature live performances in John Benny’s, The Green Room, Paul Geaney’s, Geaney’s Yard, McCarthy’s, The Marina, Barr na Sráide, O’Sullivan’s Courthouse, Nelligan’s, Kennedy’s, The Dingle Pub, Paddy Bawn Brosnans, An Díseart, Bean in Dingle and The Hillgrove.

The full day-to-day lineup will be released the week of the festival.

Weekend wristbands for the Dingle Gin Music Trail are priced at €75 plus booking fee. Tickets will go on sale exclusively to Gold & Platinum Other Voices Patreon supporters Friday 21 October at 12pm followed by general sale at 12pm on Monday 24 October via Eventbrite. All ticket sales will be limited to two per person.

Weekend wristbands will give you access to every show along the Music Trail including some special gigs in An Diséart and the iconic Hillgrove Hotel.

This year you’ll have more chances than ever to see your favourite bands live with most acts playing twice, giving you +80 live sets to catch at 16 venues across the weekend!

Shows will be available on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure you get down early.

Announcements on the IMRO Other Room, Music Trail West and news on Ireland’s Edge, the multidisciplinary creative event series within Other Voices will follow in the coming weeks.

Number Of Events In October As Part Of Local Live Performance Programme

A spectacular fire and aerial circus show will take place in Tralee at the end of October.

THERE will be 35 events taking place in October with the support of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media’s Local Live Performance Programming Scheme 4.

The events will take place across the county and there’s something for everyone, with music, vocal, storytelling, fire and aerial circus performances programmed at a variety of times, with most events being free of charge.

In the Tralee Municipal District, four-piece traditional Irish music band The Rising, who put their own unique twist to tunes, are performing at the Dúchas Comhaltas Centre at the Kerry Sports Academy on Saturday, October 1.

Tralee Bay Wetlands present Classical Delights at the Lakeside Café on 9th, 16th and 23rd, featuring musicians Lucy White, Anna Connolly, Dovile Baltoniene and Emma Shanahan, who will be playing a mixture of popular classical pieces, and music from movies and musicals.

As part of An Turas Mór, there will be spectacular fire and aerial circus shows on October 30th at the Island of Geese Amphitheatre.

In the Castleisland/Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District, Dingle Food Festival kicks off the October programme with eight outdoor concerts on 1st and 2nd on the Quay and Orchard Lane Stages.

There will be performances by Kay and Patrick Crouch, Tommy O’ Sullivan, Emer and Tadhg Twomey, Jeremy Spencer, Mike Coult, Eoin Duignan, Caroline Keane, Tom Delany, Teresa Horgan, Dréimire, Donal Murphy, Matt Cranitch and DJ Aaron O’ Sullivan, featuring traditional Irish, folk, bluegrass, jazz, swing, country and world music.

Also on October 1st, Beo Binn Live presents world music group Punjabi, trad sessions with Méabh Ní Bheaglaoich, Kyle MacAulay, Jeremy Spencer and Seán Leahy, and the world’s first Irish dance music show SuperCéilí, at Paul Geaney’s Beer Garden.

Accordionist Bryan O’ Leary, joined by guest musicians, will play Sliabh Luachra music at Scartaglin Heritage Centre on 14th and Turrencahill Community Centre on 21st.

The Patrick O’ Keeffe Traditional Music Festival are having a 30th Anniversary Sliabh Luachra Concert featuring 30 musicians on 30th at the River Island Hotel, Castleisland.

The Killarney Municipal District see the Live in Killarney concert series in the Gleneagle Ballroom continue with Shane Kennedy (1st), Barry McGrath (7th), Colm O’ Mahony (8th) and Donal Lucey (22nd). Sliabh Luachra musicians Bryan O’ Leary, Matt Griffin (guitar) and Mikie O’ Gorman (fiddle) will perform at ANAM on October 9th.

In Listowel Municipal District, St. John’s Theatre are hosting Folk Saloons featuring music, song and storytelling with Steve Wall and Cáit Ní Riain (6th), Kate Dineen, Ukrainian baritone Maksym Lozovyi and Sliabh Luachra musicians (13th), and the Flyshop Blues Band and Megan O’ Neill (26th).

The Kerry Writers’ Museum’s Rambling Sessions featuring music, song, dancing, poetry and storytelling continue with Matt Dean and Friends (6th), Gabriel Fitzmaurice and Mickey McConnell (13th), Bryan Murphy and John McGrath (20th) and Daisy Kearney and The Seanchaí Ramblers (27th).

In the Kenmare Municipal District, singer-songwriter Mary Culloty O’ Sullivan brings her one-woman musical about the eighties to the Carnegie Arts Centre on 9th and singer Grace Foley performs hits from famous female artists there on 13th. Tenor Dr. Gavan Ring and pianist Dr. Louise Thomas will perform the Ballads of a Bogman: The Sigerson Clifford Song Cycle on 16th at the Daniel O’ Connell Memorial Church, Cahersiveen.

The Binneas Úibh Ráthaigh traditional music concert series concludes on 21st with Peter and Rosaleen Mullarkey and Kevin Larkin performing local pieces from the Inny Valley at Dromid Community Centre.

Over €1m In Funding For Live Music In Kerry

Under the scheme, €26,446 will be provided for live music performances at Turners Bar Tralee.

THE Live Performance Support Scheme (LPSS) will provide financial support of over €1 million to support 12 live music venues across Kerry this summer.

The scheme aims to support live performances particularly where capacity for live attendance is restricted due to Covid-19, and where funding will make live performances viable or alternatively make them available online if audiences cannot attend due to restrictions.

In Tralee, MarketShare Kerry receives €21,157 for Tralee Music Revival — a series of performances to reignite the live music scene and culture in Tralee — while Bruno Tavern Limited receives €26,446 for live music performances at Turners Bar Tralee.

• Celtic Steps The Show receives €84,627  to livestream performances from Killarney Racecourse Theatre.
• Scott’s Hotel, receive €84,627 for live performances for tourists across the Summer.
• Easy Street Ltd receive €109,486 for a number of musical performances.
• Mike the Pies receives €131,992  for live performances indoor, outdoor and streamed shows from Mike the Pies in Listowel.
• Gleneagle Hotel Killarney/INEC Arena receives €380,822 for live music shows and future sounds with live recording of material from acts of the future.

Minister for Education, Normal Foley welcomed the news saying: “This money will help to facilitate the delivery of exciting programmes of activities over the coming summer and autumn period. This funding will also provide a vital lift to those talented performers, artists, technicians, creative and performance support staff across the sector, who have not been able to work due to the pandemic.”
