YOU’LL have to be careful driving up Boherbee these days, because a new mural on the side of a famous pub is stopping both pedestrians and traffic alike.
Francis Galvin of the Slieve Mish Bar wanted to do something to brighten up the side of the building, so a locally-based artist has certainly done a great job with a Guinness-themed work of art.

“I wanted to put a mural on the pub so I asked an artist, Migel Kryzi, who lives upstairs from the bar, to do something Guinness-related. He came up with all the ideas for it, so full credit to him for that,” said Francis, who explained that he got permission from Guinness to do the mural.
The mural features the familiar Toucan from the old Guinness ads – balancing a pint on his beak – and a large pint of Guinness. Francis said Migel, who is studying art, started painting on Monday morning but it’s only half-finished.
“We’re waiting for the rain to pass again. Migel says he’s only half finished so it’ll probably be next week before he can get it done. He plans to do a lot more to it,” he said.
It’s getting a lot of attention from customers and passers-by said Francis.
“A typical one is people are coming in saying ‘I see there’s a pint on the house’. Just yesterday, during the middle of the day, there was a group of around 30 tourists stopped outside taking photos, so it’s really grabbing everyone’s attention,” said Francis.
TWO sisters have decided to raise funds for the Recovery Haven after the amazing care the centre showed for their aunt who passed away from cancer last year.
Charlotte and Sarah Higgins are holding a ‘Chop Or Change’ event in the Slieve Mish Bar this Friday night at 8pm and they are hoping the public turn out for a great cause.
“We decided to do it because our auntie, Ann Collins, died last year from cancer,” said Charlotte Higgins from Killeen Woods. “She was diagnosed in January 2013 and died in October of that year. Although she only had a few short months she had a great time when she came to the Recovery Haven. They were months that she treasured here,” said Charlotte, a multimedia student in IT Tralee.

“Even when she was in remission, she spent her time in Recovery Haven helping out,” said Sarah Higgins. “She made great friends with the volunteers and the people using the service. It was kind of like a second home, a place to escape. The ladies are great over here, they offer amazing support,” said Sarah who, like her sister, is also an ITT student, studying Business and Accounting.
The ‘Chop Or Change’ night is basically the same are ‘Shave Or Dye’. The girls are dying their hair and then they’re shaving their heads along with two other girls and a guy who’s shaving his beard. There’s also going to eight men getting their legs waxed on the night.
The ladies wished to thank all the businesses in town who have generously given spot prizes.
The people at Recovery Haven are delighted the girls have organised the event.
“On behalf of Recovery Haven, I’d like to thank Sarah and Charlotte for doing this wonderful fundraiser. We’d appreciate the public’s support on the night,” said Maureen O’Brien of Recovery Haven.
“We badly need funding at the moment due to the economic climate. All donations are gratefully accepted,” said Maureen.
