TRALEE taxi drivers met with Kerry TDs, Tralee Municipal District councillors and Garda P.S.V. Inspector Jim O’Brien at a meeting on Wednesday evening about the ongoing rank issues in the town.
In a statement to TraleeToday.ie, Tralee Taxi Association described the meeting in The Rose Hotel as “a worthwhile exercise” in which 40 drivers were present.
“The dialogue was positive and amicable. Tralee Taxi Association are hopeful that the Councillors can now make an informed decision and will persuade the Executive of the Tralee Municipal District to re-consider their position on the taxi rank debacle,” the statement reads.

They said they are looking forward to a further meeting which they hope will yield a “progressive satisfactory solution to the Taxi Rank problem”.
The drivers are unhappy with the new rank located near Boots/Tesco, just off Abbeycourt.
Both Michael and Danny Healy Rae were the only TDs who attended the meeting and Tralee Taxi Association while Mayor Norma Foley and Councillors Pa Daly, Toireasa Ferris, Jim Finucane, Thomas McEllistrim and Terry O’Brien attended the meeting.
Tralee Taxi Association received apologies from Deputy John Brassil and Deputy Martin Ferris, Cllr. Pat McCarthy (who previously met and spoke with the Taxi Committee two weeks ago) and Cllr. Graham Spring, while Cllr Sam Locke was also unable to attend.
